I was telling my eye doctor about my pet-sitting business and he knew that I had been training at my old job, so he asked if I would still consider training his dog. I told him a couple of times that I'm not certified or accredited or any such thing, but he just wants someone he knows to work with his 7 month of Sibe (or Malamute, can't remember).

I'm comfortable teaching the "Petsmart 8" and then some...my old job was charging $100 for a 7 week course that taught 30 commands (of which I remember about 20). Would $60-70 for a 7 week (1 hour a week) be reasonable?

I like Bully's philosophy, but if you're intending to get into the business for yourself and want to build a reputation and clientelle, you may want to take the more ethical approach.

Sorry, it's the newly acquired CPA coming out of me. ;)

Yeah, I've been going to this guy for almost 10 years; they've helped me out on some eyeglasses before, so I just want to be fair about it. And hopefully build some more business off of it.

Maybe a little more since they are private lessons? He was set to pay the $100 for the group class...I'll just probably stick with $70 since I am still a novice.

He seems happy to pay it for your training so I think $70 is fine. If you don't want to charge $100 you could always jump up to $80. However he knows your not certified and still wants you so why not charge $100 ( you could always buy some extra treats for your dogs :D).

*You* would be training the dog? Or are you going to teach him to train it? Personally, I think it is in both the dog's and owner's best interest to teach them to train their own dog. :D

I will be training him to train the dog. He's had other Malamutes before, but from the sound of it, this little girl is a bit more...enthusiastic...than the others. He just needs some help.

Like I've told him before, I could teach the dog to stand on it's head and yodel, but it doesn't do anyone good unless the owner knows how to elicit the same behaviors.
