IMO, American Bulldogs are almost like Boxers. In the way the act, I mean. Here is a little bit of a profile I have on them:

"....this muscular breed possesses great strength, tenacity, determination, and confidence. He is best owned by active people who are interested in devolping his athletic skills......though usally calm and self-possesed, he must have vigoorous exercise to stay fit and happy. His attidude toward strangers varies from friendly to standoffish, and even the friendly ones make vigilant guardians. Early socialization is an absolute requirement to promote a stable, discriminating temperament.......may become distructive if left alone to much.....dog aggression can be a problem....Though strong willed, he learns quickly and will respect an owner who is equally confident and consistent. Because of public/media prejudice toward any breed resembling a "pit bull," AmBulldogs should be kept on-leash outside their yard and trained through at least basic obediednce."

It also says this: Best for experienced owners
Good with Childern
Medium to Large in Size
Smooth coat
Exercise required - HIGH
Activity Indoors - MEDIUM LOW
Ease of training - MEDIUM
Sociability with strangers - MEDIUM

Hoped that helped! :D

You want a breed that will protect and is not to large.
There are many dogs that will guard you even the smallest but if your looking for a medium to large breed dog here a few suggestions,
1) German shepard: they can easily be trained for guard/security work and have a natural instict to guard thats what they were bred for.
2)Rottwieler: Also a natural guard dog, but make sure up to date on all vaccinations prone to parvo virus. Need suffecient excercise and grooming is minumum.

Both of these dogs as all need lots of socialisation at a young age.
These dogs need to be controlled firmly.
They are beautiful dogs my dad breeds rotties and has a litter coming.
And a few years back my mom used to breed shepards.

They are lovely dogs,
You should also check your local shelter dogs rescued are very grateful and lovely.

Hope I helped

From what I've heard Huskies are VERY independent. For example, if you go in one room to watch TV or such it probably won't follow you and go it's own way. Now, this is simply what I've read I used to have a Husky and I personally did not like him, he tore my hand up once when I was playing basket ball the ball bounced and accidentally hit him.

I didn't have him from when he was a puppy and I was too little and had such little knowledge of dogs needs so that could've been why he was aggressive. He was also like 6 years old when we got him from a family member.

I think if you get it from a responsible, good breeder (you can ask your local vet for some breeder referrals in your area) and get it from when it's a pup to where it can grow up with and give it plenty of excerise it will be a wonderful dog towards you and your family.

Sorry for the long post  and good luck with finding the right dog!

MY Huskies are nothing like that. All mine are very clingy and friendly dogs (I have 15 because i am a musher ). Mine wirn't really independent I mean their ok on their own but the enjoy human company. My one dog Tracker follows me around ALL day long just because its what he does.

But of course these are MY huskies

That's good. My husky was mean to me so I just kinda had a bad experience with the breed but I think it was the reasons I listed previously.

I still love dogs, and I always will. :D

By the way, those are some good pictures of the huskies you got there. Nice lookin' dogs.
