WellPet, the maker of the Wellness foods your pets have come to love, is committed to delivering the very best in nutrition. As pet parents ourselves, nothing is more important to us than the well-being of our dogs and cats. That’s why I wanted to personally let all of you know that our product quality testing indicated that a few lots of our canned cat food might contain less than adequate levels of thiamine, also known as Vitamin B1. As a result, we are voluntarily recalling these items.
The recalled products include, all flavors and sizes of Wellness canned cat food featuring “BEST BY†dates from 14APR13 to 30SEP13 and all sizes of the Chicken & Herring flavor with a “BEST BY†date of 10NOV13 and 17NOV13. These dates can be found on the top or bottom of the can.
Cats fed only food from these lots for several weeks may be at risk for developing a thiamine deficiency. Though that chance is small, and only affects certain lots of these products, we are taking the additional voluntary step of recalling all lots of those products and “Best By†dates.
If you have any cat food from these lots, you should stop feeding it to your cats and call WellPet at (877)227-9587 to arrange for return of the product and reimbursement. Additional information can be found at Wellness - Healthy Dog and Cat Food.
No other Wellness products that your pets currently enjoy are involved, so you can continue to feed your pets their favorite Wellness foods and treats with full confidence. I apologize for any concerns this may have caused you. Rest assured, quality and safety are our top priority and we are doing everything necessary to ensure this doesn’t happen again.
Sincerely,
Tim Callahan, CEO
