Many of you were so nice to offer your advice and well wishes to Charlie and me, so I thought I'd give you an update on what's been going on. He's been on phenobarbital for about a month now and is doing much, much better. He had a couple of bad seizures the first week, but none since then!
We still don't know if it's a brain tumor or epilepsy, but he is happy and healthy for the moment so we are taking each day as it comes. The pheno makes him a bit goofy and he tends to bump into things and is generally a bit confused sometimes. It also makes him hungry and thirsty all the time, which is actually kind of a good thing because he really needs to gain some more weight back. He is back up to almost 70lbs though and his fur is coming back in.
Maybe all that we've been through can help some other dog who ends up in similar circumstances. I know more about dog health/brain/system issues than I ever wanted to know, so if anyone ever needs support/advice on this type of stuff, Renee knows how to reach me if I'm not around here.
Thanks again to all!
And a couple of gratuitous pics for those that haven't seen the love of my life in a while:
