I disagree. Breeding a monorchid dog that you removed the undescended testicle (and clearly the puppy purchaser here had no idea that this was even PROBLEM!) is not ethical, in any way shape or form.

Does the rest of the oh so wonderful working border collie world KNOW that she's breeding uni-ballers? Or is it just so accepted now that no one cares?

Or *gasp* is it just that while working people like to paint the show people so evil, but it's the pot calling the kettle black - and they are willing to sacrifice on health if that's what it takes to get a working dog? That it's ok to only have one descended testicle and pass that along time and time again, as long as it can work?

Nope, sorry - I don't buy it. Pot. Kettle. Black.
Yes, that's exactly it. We want to breed unhealthy dogs. Someone, please, find me a stud with epilepsy, CEA and joint problems. That'll surely produce a stellar working dog!

I don't like painting anything. The show people do what floats their boat, as do the working people. There are plenty of things done on the conformation side of this breed that I find heinous and unethical, and I'm sure show people (and especially people who are not involved with the breed) see a great deal of unethical practices in working breeders. I don't find breeders of conformation BCs "evil" as you say, but their opinion of what's good for the breed is quite unlike mine. "We" are horrified that they breed dogs that can't tell a sheep from a flying purple people eater, and they're horrified that "we" allow ugly dogs (and occasionally dogs with one testicle - though i must admit this is the first time I've heard of it in these lines) to reproduce.

In any case, I'm going to respect the OP's wishes and bow out. A testicle has no impact on working ability - Jen, remember this. Blaze, breeding quality or not, still has all the makings of a superb stockdog and he's destined to success in your dedicated hands. :)

Interesting discussion, though. I wouldn't mind continuing it on a less personal level.

You all know **** well that if I or someone else who isnt very much liked on this forum or isnt popular, would have been read the riot act. And asking politely would have done nothing. No one has critisized the pup or OP, was she the one who bred the dog? No, and not once did anyone say it was wrong to own a cryptochid dog.

I disagree, showdawgz. My opinion remains the same, whether it's my friend Jennifer's puppy, or a complete stranger.

I don't support breeding monorchid or cryptorchid dogs, but I don't think doing so with a superb individual means a breeder is completely devoid of ethics.

No, Showdogz, if you had respectfully and repeatedly asked for people to start another thread and discontinue the discussion in this one - especially when everything has already been said and the tone is quite nasty in a few posts, I would back you up. :) I happen to like Lizmo a lot which is why I took it a bit more personally here, though, and I will admit that.

Now, Nolu . . . is that video still so disturbing?
Honestly it was mostly the lyrics to the song that freaked me out. It took me like a minute to figure out what movie the clips were from, though! :p

It's amazing how a simple question can involve into this !!! I agree , put it in Breeding and leave out the OP !!
You got that right. But, I wouldn't except much less.

Maybe its just me but I did not take this as about her or Blaze specifically, more about an issue in breeding??
If you go read my original post, it has nothing to do with whether or not it's ethical, it has to do with asking a question about what I should do.

But, anyways, it doesn't look like Blaze will be left intact due to family issues.

Thank you Renee, Kim, Grace, Nikki, Nolu and AC.

Yes, I did read that, you asked if you should believe the breeder or the vets opinion.... that pretty well opens up the debate about what to do (which leads to ethics), I am not sure why everyone is so wound up about it **shrugs**

Your pup is very cute and no matter what the opinions on this thread are, I am sure he will bring you years of companionship. I have a blind terrier, one I bred from CERF clear parents, so I understand genetics can bite you in the butt sometimes, trust me I am the last person to judge.... I was trying to make you feel better and know that I (and others I am sure) were not judging you or your pup.
