Thanks everyone who came to my rescue with your wonderful suggestions. Shane (the new boxer puppy) is now sleeping through the night almost every night, from 11ish to about 8. Only occassionally waking to go out in the middle of the night. Your suggestions that I put him closer to me to help him stop barking and whining really have helped. Ignoring worked well too. He still has to be put to bed, and will whine and sometimes bark for about 5 minutes then settles down for the night. :)
I'm still working on the transition into the bigger crate that won't fit in my bedroom, but I think with lots of patience, we'll get there. House breaking is going pretty good too. :hail: Thank you thank you.

I'm so glad things are working out now. I must say I was worried that you'd give up on it given how many problems you were having getting him to settle but I'm glad to hear you've stuck with it. I would keep with his current crate for a while longer so that he gets lots of practice being good in the crate before you go changing things around again and move him to the big crate, just my opinion. I'm also happy that he is housebreaking easily so far, that way he will be able to stop being locked in the crate sooner and can simply choose if he wants to sleep there.

Congrats and kudos for sticking with it!

Thanks everyone! If it hadn't been for your support I'm afraid I would have given up to soon. He's starting to outgrow the travel crate, so i've borrowed a bigger one from my daughter, it Will fit in my room, so when I do have to change him, it will be one more similar to what he's sleeping in now, and he'll still be in my room. Thanks again everyone.
