While I was staying at my mom's house for a few days, something happened at home. My dad told my mom who told me that these 2 men came to our door and demanded money from my dad because they 'knew' that the house was used as a grow-op, or else they'd call the police. Which we aren't doing. My dad shouted for them to leave our property. When my mom told me this I felt my sense of security detoriating as I live in my own house, which is suppose to be a safe haven for us. Even though our house is totally legit and nothing wrong with it, unlike those 2 people claim, I'm a bit afraid that they'll come back and try to break in because my dad didn't comply with them. My dad is also a bit jittery about that. He bought 2 cameras to hook up around the house and now he's complaining more than ever that my puppy isn't a good dog because he's not a watch/guard dog. Stress stress stress. I've noticed so much more white hair on my dad too

What the heck's a "grow-op"? And who were these two men?

If you didn't know, a grow-op is when a grow operation of marijuana. I dont know who the two men are. There was a male caucasian and black man. They could even live on the same block, or in front of us and we don't even know.

Why would they single out their house like that? Sounds like they might just be making the rounds to see who bends and gives them money to go buy crack or something. I wouldn't worry about it...

My dad hasn't. We don't grow the stuff, but they probably smelled it one time they walked by our house, because my brother smokes that stuff and he sometimes has friends over and they just smoke it in the bathroom or kitchen. My dad also smokes it, but not as much as my brother. So my theory is that they smelled it during one of my brother or dad's smoke session. My dad did mention once that he heard our side gate close and a man beside our house... so who knows.

I'd say get the pot and the paraphenalia out of the house and call the cops on those dudes. They're up to no good...

What can the police do though? I'm not sure whether or if my dad can remember their faces clearly. We don't know where they live either.

Well, in that case, I'd just leave well enough alone. They won't be back. Bet they're just looking for crack money...

Yeah, that's what I think. Even if they think we're growing it, there is a chance that they will come back.

Police are good at cleaning up problems not stopping problems. People are responsible for their own defense. I dont understand why people who have ever seen a newspaper or watched the news think that these things cant happen to them. Learn how to defend yourself and your family. When you call 911 a "responsible" person with a firearm comes over but usually too late. I am not saying "buy a firearm" because in the hands of unskilled people they are dangerous and can easily be used against you.
I personally only want a dog to serve as a warning device in case of such misfortune. Cameras will certainly help convict someone after the deed is done. Most people have a fire extinguisher to protect them from fire, why not something to protect themselves from bad people?

I hope you and your family are safe. Even if this blows over and nothing ever happens (which I think and hope will be the case)use this as a wake up call. And someone needs their butt kicked for subjecting the family to this.

Wouldn't be bad to have some pepper spray on hand. If they are wanting drugs, they'll probably be high when they come back. If they smelled it once, it's like a pack of wolves following a trail of blood.
