First of all, I want to say that it's uncanny how accurately a dog can predict the changes in season by how they blow their coat.
Last week, when it was still in the 100's, Ty blew his coat. By Friday, when he was done with the blow, it was hitting low 40's at night. Anyway, whenever he gets done blowing his coat, he always licks one spot or another, generally on the back of one of his thighs, until he occasionally gives himself a sore spot.
I scold him when I catch him doing this, generally to good effect.
However, I was gone most of the day today, and when I came home, he had licked himself into a sore on his belly and behind his right thigh. I treated him in the way I was taught by shaving the spot and putting bag balm on it, and he obviously feels better.
I'm baffled as to why he would do this to himself. The only guess I could venture is due to his obsessive, almost neurotic focus. But what I can't understand is... why?
