So, I have been thinking about getting a kong for my Westie. I have been looking and looking, and I just have a question: if you stuff the kong with whatever (peanut butter, treats etc.), isn't there a point where she can't reach the inside of the kong? If yes, isn't this going to frustrate her? I guess I just don't understand how the kong "works" (for lack of a better term), so I would appreciate some very basic instructions on how to use them.

FYI, I did buy a small one a while back (I think it's called dental kong or something), and it has a circular opening on the inside. I usually put in a small treat on one end, and a liver treat on the other. She pulls the stuff out of it, and sometimes part of the liver treat stays inside (being that it's softer). It is only a few milimeters from the edge of the opening, yet she never manages to get that out of there (maybe she just doesn't try). Isn't this going to happen with peanut butter or whatever I stuff in there? Am I supposed to put stuff in there that is close to the edge so she can reach it? If yes, wouldn't this be over fast once she's done reaching for the stuff that's within her reach? I am just so very confused... :)

Please help! LOL

P.S. I know I may be over-thinking this, but that's really how I am - I just need for stuff to make sense, and this one just doesn't for me... :):)

Hey you're not alone. My 10 month male GSD, Roy, gets frustrated with what remians inside the kong and he can't reach and I have 4 different kongs for him. I guess the idea of a kong is to keep the dog busy trying to get to what's inside. But yes, I think they sometimes get frustrated

Yes, it's normal that they sometimes can't reach everything you put in there - but that's the point, to keep them busy trying. :) As long as they are working on the Kong, they don't get bored and go on destroying stuff they shouldn't be chewing on. :)

Thank you for clarifying for me - we'll just use it this way then. Hopefully she'll keep trying - or decide it's just too much trouble. :) We'll see how it goes.
