Well for some reason I decided to bring home a kitten. Its orange and really cute and all and it was free from my aunt. Problem one. I dislike cats. Problem two. Roxy is not ajusting as well as I thought she would. First. She eats the cats poop from the litter box!!!! any idea how to make her stop this?? Second. She is being really spiteful and pooping on the floor alot!!! She never goes when we are here..well before that is. my boyfriend leaves for work at 8 and for the past two days I have been waking up at 8 30 only to find poop everywhere and Roxy pretending it wasnt her!!! she usually hides because she knows she is going to get caged for such bad behaviour! we recently brought back out her cage because of this. She hasnt been in one for a couple months now..about 3. But now we have to when we leave because she is horrible!! she eats everything chews everything and poops everywhere!!! grrr!!! Another thing is I will tell the kitty no when it bites or does kitty things and Roxy takes it under her own autority this means to go squish the kitty with her paws and growl at it! She is very well behaved unless my boyfriend or I are playing with the kitty or telling the kitty to behave. Any ideas how to 'fix' this behaviour? If it doesnt change soon I am going to give the kitty back..problem is my bf is getting attached to him..and roxy is getting more spiteful by the day!!

for the eating kitty poop problem, you can get a litter box that has a plastic cover with a little opening for the cat to walk thru. I found that some dogs can't or won't stick their heads in there to get the poop, so that may help.

I don't understand why you got a kitten in the first place if you don't like them. But I think your dog is just jealous, so you need to spend more time with her, and make sure to give her attention before you take care of the cat.

Also, your dog has NO CLUE why she is getting crated when you come back home, all you're doing is associating your return with something negative, so of course she's pooping, because she's stressed she will be punished for no reason when you come back. If you don't catch her in the act of pooping, it's useless to punish her, she won't know why you are doing it and you will just confuse and scare her.

My mother's dog also used to correct their cat for scratching the couch. She had seen us do it so often she took it upon herself to police action. The dog assumes it is higher in the family totem pole, as if you brought home a puppy.

If you ever figure out how to keep her out of the litterbox, let me know. Dogs are nuts over cat leavings.

Here's some links that might help:

http://www.canismajor.com/dog/furfury.html

This last one was much like how my mother's dog thought. We didn't have a cat, she did.

Good luck, it has been over a year, and my cat has almost forgiven me for the dog. :D

ditto

I would say though, please rehome the kitten, boxers can easily hurt a kitten even if they are just playing,
and if you dont really like the kitten, then please rehome her to someone who does like cats

maybe its a boxer thing but my dog knows very well when she pooped and i mean...this morning she had about 20 minutes to poop before i got out of bed. she did it while I was still in bed!!! as soon as I came out into the living room she didnt get excited to see I was up...we go for walks in the morning... she slinked away behind the couch and i said what happened here? in my stern voice and she didnt come up to see what happened. she used to be crated all the time when we left for an hour or so..if more wede take her or drop her off at my moms, but we stopped because she started to behave. we have always had the cage near in a corner to remind her of how it used to be before she behaved...kind of like a time out chair still in the corner for young kids...my bf loves cats...shes pretty much my boxer...he loves her to death but thinks cats and dogs should get along. Im just worried if she is getting this upset over a kitty what will she think of the baby in december :( this kitty thing was kind of an introduction to new things in Roxys life. She needs to learn to share seeing as she is very very spoiled (i know our fault for spoiling her)

She slunk away because she knows that when you come into the living room in the morning you act mad.

Dogs do not connect you being angry or annoyed to the act of pooping, possibly to the fact that there is poop in the kitchen, but not to the act. They just aren't wired that way, past is past.

I'd just go back a step and crate her again when you leave. My dog went backwards for a time in housebreaking as well.

If you're keeping the cat, make sure the dog gets attention for being good around the cat, sitting politely, not correcting the kitten. Make sure you pay attention to the dog when the kitten is in the room. Also make sure that when you're not home they can't interact together without supervision.

but i dont act mad when i go into the living room lol.but see its strange because i know they pick up on feelings...but when i get mad at my bf she knows its not at her and stand by me. but when i get mad over something like poop. she knows im mad at her. I dont care what people say...they do in a sense know when they did wrong. Like how when you walk them and say NO pulling they know they did something wrong. Yeah we are going to start crating roxy again its just sad when i leave because she crys :( as for the kitty. Well I ignore it most of the time and my bf still gives roxy the attention she needs...which seems never ending lol.

well Roxy did it again. We were in the bedroom folding clothes and Roxy pooped and peed on the floor. We had let her out at around 8 because some friends just left. its not sick looking poop either so there is nothing wrong with her stomach shes just being a $#%# I guess. She is asleep in her cage right beside me right now i didnt yell or hit her or anything. I picked it up and opened the cage door and she went right in and looked sad and layed down...the pee is right in front of her cage...i hate carpets...thats the worst part about our place its all carpets :( we are planning on moving somewhere with more room and a backyard hopefully a huge one if we get the place we are planning. she will be able to go outside whenever she wants!! shes never done this twice in one day where someone is in the other room and shes pooping in the living room *sigh* what to do im getting fustrated :(
