... So I ordered some samples of their dehydrated flakes, and I intend to give some to Rory (my Westie puppy) tonight and see how she likes it. I was reading their little brochure that came with the samples, and they claim that it is well balanced, made from human grade ingredients. They recommend feeding it by itself, or combined with whatever raw/cooked stuff you want to throw in it.

My question is: it seems highly convenient and healthy - why is this way of feeding more popular? What is the down side to this food? Is it the price, the fact that you have to order it as opposed to buying it in a store, or is there something more important that I am not aware of? I would like to be able to feed this to my puppy, but I don't want to do it if there's something really wrong with it.

I appreciate any input anyone has on this matter. Mordy, I am sure you have vast knowledge about this food also, so I would appreciate any information you can share. :)

it's an excellent way of feeding. the products are dehydrated at low tepmperatures, rather than processed using harsher manufacturing practices than dry food.

human rations for hiking and camping are produced the same way, conserving more nutrients and making for a lightweight, compact product.

i think it's just not more popular (assuming that's what you meant, since there seems to be a "not" missing in your sentence, if i understand correctly) because the products are 1. not widely known, 2. not available in big chain stores, where most people shop, and 3. not highly advertised.

there is definitely nothing wrong with it, and if you want to feed this type of food, by all means do. :)

the only real downside is cost, since compared to just preparing homemade food from scratch it is expensive. but that makes up for the convenience factor i guess. :)

Mordy, thanks for your input. Yes, I meant "why are they NOT more popular?" :) I am glad to hear that it is only about cost and the fact that they are not more available in stores.

Unfortunately, Rory didn't care for it - she tried, I could tell, but she wasn't impressed. I am not sure if I will try it again - I only had one sample for one feeding, it may be that it could grow on her. But it's a great convenient alternative, so I might just try it again sometime.

Thanks again, I really appreciate it. :)
