Hey everyone...it's been a while. I got a new job where I actually have work to do so no more surfing the net all day = less time at Chazhound

Anyway, Grizzley is about 7 1/2 months now (wasn't he just 4 months old about a week ago? LOL time goes to fast) Zoom had said a couple months ago that he thought that Grizz might be mixed with something. Here are a few recent pics of him:

and 2 for fun:
Mean Doggie:

His ears stick up all the time, the only time they are down is when he is sleeping or relaxed. I was almost thing he might have a little German Shephard in him. At the end of August he was about 48 pounds, I haven't weighed him recently. He has the skinny face of a GSD and the eyes to maybe?

What do you guys think? Still to young to tell?

Maybe he has some BC in him? He doesn't look like a pure bred Aussie to me... hmm.. I'm not quite sure what else it could be though..

He definitely doesn't look all Aussie to me.... but who knows. What is WITH his coloring though? It's so cool! Merle with.. I dunno, something. He's a not a Blue or Red merle, though, that's for sure. It almost looks as though he would have German shepherd coloring, but the black mask and saddle weren't fully painted on!

I am so bad at guessing breeds but he has some of the funkiest colouring I've ever seen.

it's not the ears that would make me suspect he is mixed with something, there are quite a few aussies with what they call, prick ears, so that's not really it,,

I think the biggest thing for "me", is his coloring,,pattern of color and his lack of "pants" /feathering on the legs..but he is still young, so more coat may come with age.

My working lined aussie, tho he has a much shorter stock coat than my female 'foo foo' aussie, he still has the feathering on the front legs and "pants"...

I think why people may see gsd, is because of his ears standing up,,but like I said, that wouldn't be it for me..

I'd like to see him when he's around 1.5, and see how his coat or lack of, comes in...The coloring is really unusual THAT is what makes me suspect and he seems to have a long nose.

I hope you don't think I'm picking him apart! He is one CUTIE and I DO see aussie there, but not sure how much...

Did you ever get to see any of the others in the litter? Or mom or dad?

I personally think he's a sable merle, not terribly common but it is a documented color in Aussies. His lack of feathering really makes me wonder as well, though I have also seen short coated Aussies, well, one really. I can't really guess as to what the other part of Grizzly might be, but yeah, I don't think he's pure at all.

I've never thought Grizzly was all Aussie. I'm not sure what else could be in him, but definitely something.

He's a really neat looking dog. I love his colouring. :)

I won't venture to guess, as he potentially could be many different breeds, mom being an Australian shep that had a fling with a few mixed breeds. (That is to say if you got this pup as a rescue, from a shelter or adopted him without papers?) In any case, he is very unique and looks to be pretty special!!

The ears do make him look like a GSD, sometimes he looks at me and I can see it in the face to, but Zoom had given me a website to go to with Sable merles on it and I'm pretty sure that is what the Aussie part of him is. If you move his fur to the base of his skin its all tan and then just the tips are black. His individual furs are really thick and somewhat wirey. His fur is about 3-4 inches long all down his back and then the backs of his back legs and the sides of his face. I got him from the flea market so no papers, his brother was there with him and looked just like him but had 2 full brown eyes where Grizz has one that is half blue.

Where can I go to see an example of "pants" and feathering on the legs? I haven't heard the term pants before.

BC's can be sable merle also. It's really rare but there are some wackos out there breeding specifically for candy colors and they produce a ton of pups.

But, if a plain old sable BC (not rare at all) had a fling with a merle Aussie (definitely not rare), sable merle could easily result. Those off-kilter markings are really very Border Collie like (lol).

Or BC/GSD with an Aussie. Or sheltie GSD and Aussie. Could be a lot of things, really! Mostly, just cute!
