I have a question for you FK, if you were so proud of those rabbit hutches you built for all your Golden pups why did you remove them from your forum? After all it made it so you didn't have to bend over to care for them. And so easy when the poop and pee just drop through the bottom.
I cleaned a lot of photos off of my photo bucket account to make room for others. And yes. I have raised puppy pens for when they are old enough to go outside. I don't believe in putting puppies in the dirt and concrete is just to hard on their little feet. My concrete exercise areas are brushed.
My "rabbit" hutches as you call them were made from X-pens with a PVC floor (not a wire floor like the standard central metal puppy pens like many breeders use).
It was not about "bending over" to care for them. It was quite simply better for them to be raised up so that you can get to them better to care for them and see anything that might be going on. When you are worming puppies and vaccinating puppies, its easier to reach them. Having them up off the ground keeps them from eating their poop (which goldens will do without hesitation) it also starts them on house breaking. They also learn not to be afraid being up high, which if you show, you are going to have them on a grooming table. I use those cages for all of two weeks from the time they go out until they go home.
I have the exact same design except larger and lower to the ground, for bigger puppies that I am training or growing out.
