Possible Mange, What To Do?

Our Golden Retriever has a weakened immune system, most likely cause by her poor breeding. She'll be 3 on Valentines day and has come down with mange twice. We just go to our local feed store and the guy prescribes us a dose of Ivermeticin according to her breed/weight. The second dose is given 14 days after the first. We also get a nice spray that helps relieves the itching and helps the coat grow back.

Her first time it was horrible but the second time we were able to treat it quickly and she only had a mild reaction.
There are different levels of Ivermectin given for different things. The dose in Heartgard is much less than what is needed for Mange. Hopefully the "feed store clerk" gave you the right dose cause too much can be dangerous for your dog and too low is worthless for mange. I also believe that the doses for mange should be given a week apart.

Since when are feed store clerks vets?

That's scary.. unless, of course, he is a licensed vet, and in that case, I apologize and will take my worry elsewhere.

I don't do business with Hartz in any way.

I'm sure many here remember when they combined two flea chemicals that reacted together and dogs died horrible deaths. Worse yet, they didn't feel the need to take responsibility for it except under pressure. I wouldn't buy a Hartz product uf you put a gun to my head.
