I have a lab/boxer x that is just over 2 years old. She is weel trained and well behaved for myself and everyone she lives with. Unfortunately, she got out today and I found out she is not well behaved without me. I need advice how to deal with aggression that I have not seen.

Well trained and well behaved... but... got out (got out of where?)and you found out she is not well behaved and you need to deal with agression that you have not seen... sorry, need more info there.

Perhaps you shoud seek a trainer/behaviorist in your area...

She got out of the back yard today. Treed a cat, and wouldn't let my neighbor out of his yard. He was pretty sure she was ours and told her to go home, but she stood there and growled at him. She also charged their fence (where their dog was). She has only growled at 2 people with me and they smelled like alchohol ( I know my neihbor didn't).

I'm not sure what you mean, could you be more specific? I was also wondering...Did you train this dog in any group obedience situations and socialize her with other dogs and other people in other territories outside your home? How does she behave when you go for a walk and other people or animals are in the area?

We did puppy classes beginning around 12 weeks. We used to go to the dog park, currently attending doggy daycare once every 2 weeks or so ( She misbehaved and played a little ruff last time). We also go to Petsmart and out for walks.

PS. I have never used a chat room before any tips are helpful

How did you dog get out?

Can you just give us the low down.. so we're not playing 20 questions... if you give as much info as possible, I'm sure some of us may be able to offer assistance...

Most trainin ghas been done by myself, except the puppy classes. Although we had already worked on a lot of that. I had a trainer consultation after she growled at the second person when we were out for a walk. The trainer was very impressed with her behavior. She wants to play with most dogs, and loves people (overall) when we are out on walks.

But growling isnt necessarily agression... hmm... I don't know? It's hard if you don't know what really happened..

Sorry, very new at this. I had an Akita I recsued when I got the puppy. Akita had some behavior issues, but was always friendly with people. She passed away in September of this year. Katje (the problem dog) had lived with the Akita since 10 weeks old. After the Akita died we started going to daycare. We don't know how the gate was opened, maybe someone here left the caribeaner off the latch, or a neighborhood kid opened it, no idea. Both dogs got out once before, but they pushed the gate open because the latch was loose. That problem is fixed.

My neighbor said she was growling and wouldn't let him off his property. This was after she charged their fence.

Ok. But how was the dog being agressive? Just by growling? Do you know exactly what happened?

If the gate was opened... and she got out.. she cou dhave been insecure? Was your neighbor near your house? maybe she was being protective?

When she was growling at your neighbor, did she just, like, turn around and go home? I mean, how did he get her away from him? She didn't approach him right? She's interesting. lol.

I guess if I were in your shoes I would consult with a professional one-on-one. We have some great pros on this board. Maybe they can give you some exercises you can do to change her behavior. I definitely am not one of them. You might consider a lock on that latch though, if you think kids will just open it at will.

I think she just growled at him and stood her ground. He just went back into his house when she wouldn't leave. When my roommate got home she was laying on the back deck. My roommate heard her carrying on around 6 pm and checked on her, someone was shutting the gate. We have worked with her to stay in the yard even when the gates are open. I think the cat may have been too tempting to pass up, and that's why she left the yard.
