I saw this dog on TV the other day that was absolutely beautiful. They never said what kind of dog it was, and I checked the online onfo for that TV show and they don't have any pictures.

It was House Hunters, in Canton Texas, the man was a firefighter I believe. Anyhow, I even e-mailed their realtor asking him if he knew and I haven't heard back. I felt weird doing it anyway.

I would really like to know what breed this is, so I can research and find out if it would be a good fit for our family.

It was a medium sized dog, with super curly short fur. It's head was black and it's body was white. It actually looked quite a bit like a New England Sheepdog, but all the pictures I've found for that breed have the wrong fur. It's hair was in long enough to be in it's eyes.

Does anyone know what I'm talking about? Thanks in advance!

What is PWD?

I looked at some labradoodle pictures, but this head was different. I really thought it would be a New England Sheepdog, but their fur seems to be straighter and coarser.

I don't know that there's such thing as an New England Sheepdog. I think you mean Old English Sheepdog. But I could be wrong.

Here's what I think based on the curly hair:
-Poodle
-Labradoodle
-Portuguese Water Dog
-Curly coated Retreiver
-Wetterhoun
-Barbet
-Perro De Agua Espanol

Yes it's quite possible. I am searching the internet for a live stream of this episode so I can try to take a screen shot. I know it's hard to identify anything without a picture. Thank you guys so much for the suggestions.

You are right about the Old English Sheepdog! I knew what I was typing didn't sound right.

I think it was a Portuguese Water Dog. The pictures I'm finding for that are the closest I've seen.

I have never heard of them, are they a common dog?

Everything I have read about the "designer dog" mixes says they are a bad idea, is that so?

Dulce, it was built a lot like that, but the colors were very separate, just black on the head and just white on the body, and the fur was curlier. That dog in the picture might have curlier fur if it wasn't wet right?

They're not too common, no. Need lots of exercise, and mental stimulation.

Designer breeds *often* are bred by back yard breeders, and are not something that should be supported.

There is lots of info on BYBs on this forum. There are also several very nice people that can educate you on the angers on BYBs.

Oh and it wasn't so much the color of the dog that I care about, I liked the build and the fur and the size, and it seemed like a good tempermented dog.

Yes, that's very possible. However, the dog I posted is EXTREMELY rare. So I doubt that was it un less teh show was filmed in Spain :)

So would they not be a good family dog? I have a 4 year old and a 1 year old. We have a medium sized back yard, and go on walks every day in the summer, but we live in the Pacific Nortwest so there are lots of rainy days that we don't.

This show was filmed in Canton Texas. I am on Google Images and see lots of PWD pictures and they are gorgeous, but you're right, none with the markings of the dog on this show.

I guess I don't need that specific dog, I just liked the look of it. It's more important to get a breed that fits our family, as we already found that beagles do not.

Like I said, they are VERY high energy, working dogs. They are fishermans dogs. But they are great flyball and agility dogs.
Very smart, quick to learn.

They will do just fine with regular walks, water sports, off leash play, etc.
