I'd have to smuggle my dog to a rescue or some family or friend out of the state before I gave him up!!!

I definitely know I wouldn't live in Denver, and if I did, I'd move. I can't believe what they're doing there. My pets are my family, and I could never give them up.

It seemed to me that most of these dogs had been running loose all the time. Was that the case or did I read that wrong? If SOME of those people don't take proper care of their dogs, then they don't need them anyway. But, the people that do take care of their dogs, I feel really bad for them. There is no way anyone would come to my house and tell me that I have to give them my dog. Especially when my dog hadn't done anything wrong. I just don't understand this whole thing.

If I read it correctly when the law originally went into effect many owners simply abandoned there dogs outside the city limits, and now that the law is going to be enforced the animal control is gearing up for another round of irrisponsable owners dumping their dogs.

I have an opinion on this that no one is going to like but...I love pitties. I think they are sweet and can be awesome dogs. They usually are even. But they are still being used in fighting and are still being allowed to do what they want and they seem to be the new "fad" dog with teens because they see them in the news and think they are badass. I feel so badly for the families that are losing their pets, I would die if someone tried to take Sunny from me. But I wonder if it wouldn't be best for these people to keep their dogs and just have all current pitties fixed, then the breed would just die off gradually and there wouldn't be a pitbull to ban. Think of all the hate people have towards these dogs. It's not fair to THEM. We're focusing on helping a breed that I think is so much more difficult to defend. Why not focus on finding homes for all of the potentially good family dogs that get passed over by no-kill foster programs because they AREN'T pitties or pittie x's . Animal enthusiests seem to be obsessed with pitbulls. WHY? I mean, yeah, sweet dogs, nice personality but so is a lab. It's unfair that they are singled out as people killers since it is generally not them that does the killing but sometimes it IS and they CAN be deadly since they are sooo strong. The sports they are used for are cart pulling and strenght based activities. Dogs are family pets. Shouldn't a family feel safe having a dog around. Even if it is just the idea that they can't trust their new adoptee since it might have pitbull in it, isn't that a negative experience for the dog? I just don't know. If I had a foster kid and the whole neighborhood HATED him, threw things at him, yelled at him, threatened to hurt him because of who he was, not because he was bad but they percieved him that way, I would do everything in my power to have him moved to somewhere he was SAFE no matter how much I loved him. It would hurt but would be the best and safest for him. Shouldn't we afford the same for a dog who has little control over his living situation? Move them to where they are safe, even if that safe place is the rainbow bridge. I'm sorry, I've kept silent forever on this but this is my opinion on the matter and I really felt I should share, popular or not.

First off, ANY dog can be deadly! Not just pits! Labs bite people too. I'm sorry, but I completely disagree with you. I know more people that own nice, sweet, loyal, kid loving pits, than I do people that own pits for fighting. I honestly don't know of one person that has a mean pit!!!!! I see no point in letting the breed die off. I mean, here in Texas everyone has pits. They tried to ban them a few years ago, but it didn't work!!! The subject hasn't been brought up since. I know that other places have different opinions, but I say, if someone wants to get rid of their pit, bring it to Texas!!!! Especially in the small towns. Occasionally there are 1 or 2 cases in Houston where a dog fighting ring has been busted, but that is just a bunch of punk kids that don't need a dog in the first place. I have been around pit bulls my whole life, and I couldn't see NOT having one around me.

obviously you didn't read my whole post. I didn't say I agree with just arbitrarily killing off dogs. I know labs can be deadly. I didn't say that pits should die off because they are vicious dogs. I said they should be allowed to die peacefully with families they love until there aren't any more pits to argue about. For their safety. I can't imagine wanting to have a dog that someone is going to freak out about you having. The purpose of the pit was to be a fighting dog. They are thoroughly effective at that purpose. Just like a greyhound is awesome at racing, border collie is awesome at herding. Pitbulls can and will fight with other dogs. Even if they don't people assume they will. It isn't fair to keep them around if they are the target of hate and violence. Sure, move them all to Texas or wherever you want them to be moved but don't keep on breeding them! It's not fair to the dog. I stand by the fact that if I had a kid that was unsafe here I would find a way to move him to safety, let him live out his life somewhere comfortable and die peacefully.

also, don't think that I don't like pitbulls. I think that everyone here has made an awesome case for these dogs. I wish everyone could feel about them the way that you guys do here. It's not that. I just hate to see them suffer for us stupid humans ignorance. :( As I said I would just die if someone tried to take away Sunny or aussie's in general. I know that there are people who have far greater the love for their dogs then I can even imagine and them being torn from them is CRUEL. But I don't see a solution in the future that is going to be to the benefit of pitties. Unless we create our Chazhound safe haven community and we move all of them there. Which is an idea would be much in favor of :D

I totally agree with you there!!!! I'm sorry if I got upset, it's just that when the subject of pit bulls comes up, I get really defensive. I mean, there are people out there, that no matter what you tell them, they will not change their minds about the breed. It just really aggravates me sometimes. I know you are not one of those people though. I just wish this whole thing would blow over, and let people and their dogs be happy together at home. Again, I'm sorry for getting so defensive. :(

It's okay. It's sad that there has to be any of this stupid dog banning buisness. I can't imagine having to be the person who has to go take someone else's dog  I'd take them all home and hide them in my basement. :D Sigh. I would get defensive too if someone tried to lay their hands on my dog. I think my last dog was a pittie x even though we were told he was a border collie/pointer type dog...which he still could have been but even if he was he was the sweetest dog ever. My dog before that growing up was a beagle rottie x and was my baby. I got her when I was 7 and we grew up together. Who ever came up with the bull that rotties are vicious need to have their head examined. Same for am staffs (maybe if we can get that name to really set in it'll confuse people and think that pitties are the 'vicious' ones and amstaffs are a different breed :D ) I'm sorry I offended you. your dogs are GORGEOUS esp. Bula.

I can see the reasoning behind your agreement with the ban, unfortunatly there are many other breeds just waiting in the wings to get it too. People are horrible cowards and anything that seems like a potential danger must be destroyed in the eyes of the average person. Wether its Pit Bulls, Jews, American Indians, people of mid eastern decent, firearms or drugs. They pass laws then good people get punished because they were too honest to take the game underground and make the real big money. The people who fight pitbulls will still fight them, they will just be tighter lipped about it. When there is a ban the price on what ever is banned goes up and it magnifies the problem many times over..ie alcohol (during prohibition)and drugs. Since we started imposing laws the problems have gotten much worse. The day pit bulls are outlawed is a day that people will get thier hands on as many as they can just for the purpose of breeding them no matter what nasty bloodlines they have. Of course those poor dogs will never again see the light of day. Many responsible people would be hurt to lose the pit bull breed and the losers who abuse the breed would go unaffected because they would either do it underground or find (or make)another "vicious" breed

I have to put in my two cents on this one ;) First of all, the more "banning" this country does, the more trouble we are going to get into! What people don't understand is all the other stuff that has to go into a ban to make it work and when really thought out, it's next to impossible to follow through on all these ideas. Take drugs for example, or the prohibition times. These examples just go to show that banning and making things illegal doesn't fix or even near treat the problem, it just makes it more dangerous because people go into hiding and underground with what they are doing. Drugs, prostitution and murder are all illegal and they still happen!! All the time to say the least!! Now lets say we ban pitbulls....who's going to find all the pitbulls and ensure they go elsewhere, how and when are they going to follow through and how can they physically carry out such a ban? What if someone argues that their pit is a mix or a different breed, then it's their word against the authorities, who wins? I guarantee that the authorities win and that is not what this country is founded on!! The concept of an authority barging in and taking something precious from me would make me want to leave the country. Isn't that what this country is about anyway, freedom? Then why does everyone and their brother want to ban this, prevent that and make this and that illegal? I am getting so sick of it!! After pitbulls, what is next?? I guarantee they wont stop there.

I am proud to hear that instead of apartment complexes around here banning certain breeds they just require that the animal have it's CGC certificate. I think that is a really nice way to not discriminate and all breeds have to have it in order to move in. I guess I just don't believe in punishing the majority for the bad deeds of the minority. The responsiblity lies in the breeders hands. ALL breeders, not just pitbull breeders need to be more picky about where their animals end up.

I agree !!! A lot of " laws" hinder those who are doing their best to correct a problem. Get the ones who breed for fighting, the back yard breeders of these dogs who probably sell to these folks. Protect responsible breeders who would never sell to anyone who wouldn't want their dog to be a loving member of the family. Denver in a few years will have Rottie and Dob problem .....as replacement " bad dog " breeding. I love America , but am really having trouble with lack of getting to the bottom of things. Drugs, gangs , illegal immigrants , etc etc. I'm glad of my age, because I hate to think of what my country will be like in 30 years.! So sad !!!

I love it here too and I would like to fight for what makes me proud of this country and banning this and that is not it!!!! In fact, it totally goes against the principals we were founded on. You know it's sad, we have a really bad meth drug problem where I live and they have gone so far that we can't by Sudafed around here for the common cold. We have to get a prescription from our doctor. Give me a break....do they really think that banning cold medicine in the grocery store is going to solve the drug problem???

Showpug.. your post came in before mine and we do agree. I've always felt dogs should have a CGC before being banned. It's an easy test and unless a dog is bred for agressive attitude, all should pass. There should be a monitary issue here too... licence wise. But, too many areas don't require these. I have always thought that when you have a dog tax, people should do it. It's usually only $2 to $5 a year. Those that have a CGC should pay less.
