Well we finally got it done today. Dropped her off early in the morning and then I had to work all day while worrying. But everything went well, they spayed her and also removed one dew-claw (she had an extra one). She's doing fine now but really drugged up. Now I have to keep her calm for a week, no running, no jumping, no stairs... yeah anyone that has met penny knows that's like near to impossible but I will do my best! I'm happy we got it done tho no more worries about her getting in heat and having to make sure she doesn't get to be around other dogs etc. I joined the responsible dog-owners:)

The cat seems to offer her some sympathy...

Penny in her brand new dogbed, she's one tired girl....

awww she'll be fine. It's so hard when they first come home though. I had nanook done in the fall and it was hard to see her when I picked her up. And then the next day she was fine.

Good on you :) She'll be racing around again in no time, and be a happier pet for it too.

BTW, she is stunning :) Rare to see such a nice, true black coat in a sheltie anymore (without dye that is!)

Awww shes a beautiful girl! And it looks like she loves her new bed:)

Surprisingly, when Charlie was neutered all he did was sleep for 2 days:eek: I couldn't believe it, you know, being an ACD and all...:p

I just wanted to say good on you for getting her spayed. I know what it's like trying to stop them running around, jumping about the place (especially when they are puppies). She'll be fine soon enough! :)

Well goodness me, you give yourself a pat on the back there, and a huge hug for your girl. Well done, and yes you are a responsible owner. She will bounce back and be her old self in no time at all :)

You have done the best thing for her, and for any puppies that might have accidently occured down the track.

My hats off to you :)

Aww poor Penny she looks so tired. Well done though, you did what the right thing and Penny will bounce back in no time. I remember when we had Casey done, she walked very slowly to where I was sitting and gave me the tiniest little 'smile' to show she was happy to see me, she slept for ages afterwords.

lol Aww Penny girl! :)

She'll be fine though!! I personally know its next to impossible to keep Shelties calm for a whole week, they go stir crazy! lol Just make sure you keep her at home for a week and in familiar places. Dont want infection in her cut.

Your cat is HUGE lol I was like OMG.. had to take a second look at it :)

BTW, she is stunning Rare to see such a nice, true black coat in a sheltie anymore (without dye that is!)
Guess those other people with tri factor or tri shelties keep them in the sun too long then. Any person who has a black dog that is showing them should know to put a little cooler blanket on them while they are out in the sun for a long time. Getting sun dyed is also not good for their coat.

It's not all sun bleaching though, Riot. There is a reddish caste to many black shelties and it is an inherited condition. (a recessive rusting factor) For years, people were swearing up and down that it was due to beet pulp in food, sunburn, what have you. It's not. It's genetics. It's what happens when a "Matador stud" who carries for it becomes pervasive in the gene pool (which in shelties, is a pretty shallow pool)

If you're interested, Cheryl Anderson of Cherden Shelties has a nice bit up on her website about color in the sheltie, along with some stunning pictures of dogs with true black coats.
