this is hard to talk about for me. i will explain the best i can.

first of all when Ruckus goes pee he doesnt squat or hike his leg. So he gets pee on his skirt and smells bad. so i usually brush it out and use pet wipes daily. Also there is this hair that is on his pee pee place on the tip of it. i have been keeping this trimmed all the way near the skin so pee doesnt get stuck on his. will keeping it trimmed increase the likely hood of infections and debris in his pee pee spot?

when i was cleaning Ruckus's skirt today i noticed a yellow discharge from his pee pee place. i am wondering if thats normal. and if it could be infection caused by me keeping his fur on the end trimmed.

I will bet the hair will help keep foriegn objects from getting into his sheath.
Usually the distarch is from a foriegn object like a seed from grass.
Take a syringe without the needle and steril water and stick it in the end and flush out his sheath. Or you can pay the vet to do it.
As long as the distarch is yellow and not green you should be ok but if your really worried take him in.
I hate doing it but I do. I put my boy in the bath tub and flush away. (barf)

Sometimes dogs leak, I've noticed it a few times with my boys too. Be careful that you don't trim the hair on the tip TOO short though - the short hair can irritate the inside of the sheath and the penis itself if it pops out for a "visit"

You put it very delicately, LOL better than I would have. I don't know about the "stimulation" from the wiping, that's a possibility I guess.

I'd try keeping it a little longer and see how that works . . . Think of it as how your legs feel if you let the stubble grow out a little bit. Kinda scratchy, and probably very irritating on a sensitive spot like that.

We trim the groin area for all the male dogs that come in and need it done.

We take clippers to it and for the small breeds ex. Shih tzus, Llasas, poodles we have a "diamond" clipping from their groin and around. Their "pee pees" also get trimmed so no hair is sticking out from it.

Boys are so messy lol

When Roush was in the vet for a recent visit, I had brought up the question of the discharge because I noticed he was having some. I had a Male Rottie before and he didnt have a problem with that, but she said that some male dogs just get it and that it is normal and okay. However if there seems to be an increase in the discharge or he seems to be bothered by it..licking or scratching to bring him in b/c it may be an infection. SO now I just keep a close eye and make sure he's clean...

mmm. i don't do anything to Busters groin. but it isn't liek the hair is long and he has never had problems.

but i'd been thinking about posting soemthign about the same subject but then i noticed this.

a while ago i met a random pup (like, mastiff X red heeler) that came running across a road and crawled from 6 feet away then rolled on his back so i'd talk to him. i was patting him when i noticed he had like, thick yellow discharge coming out of him. but i've never seen it before so i didn't know whether it was a serious health concern

Bailey often gets a yellow discharge. It is never smelly and doesn't seem to bother him, so i just leave him to clean himself.
I had never thought of trimming down there.

I notice a little discharge on Hudson now and then. Once it was present when we happened to be at the vet, so I asked her about it. She said it's completely normal. They lick it off themselves... Personally, I wouldn't go too crazy trimming right there. Just wiping real quick if necessary should be fine.

Is Ruckus neutered?
If not then it is probably smegma.
I only ask as it is more common in dogs that aren't neutered, although it does happen in those that are.
It is nothing to worry about, he is just a healthy boy who obviously doesn't clean that area himself too often!! Mine are the same, i just squirt a bit of water on it to encourage them to clean themselves.
Of course, if it seems to be irritating him or it is giving off an odour, then i would take him to the vet as it could be a foreign body or an infection.

It sounds like we have the culprit then!
Just keep an eye on things, obviously if it continues (with odour and discomfort) take him to the vet to check for a foreign body. Although i am sure that now he is neutered it will no longer be a problem.
Let me know what happens next !
