Keep in mind that not all chow mixes have black tongues. I have seen quite a few purebred dogs with fairly large black spots on their tongue, and some chow mixes with perfect, creamy-pink tongues.

That ear-set screams smooth collie, and so does the coat. I do see Aussie in the eyes and face shape, and a heavier-muzzled breed (possibly Chow Chow) with her muzzle type.

By looking at her legs and how heavy her bone is, I'd actually guess that there is something a bit larger than Aussie or Collie in her.. Not sure what, though.

I read up on the bread once I got home. The lab I owned before, I did basic training, and agility training with. I also have another dog (newly adopted 1 1/2 year old lab) and they seem to keep each other occupied. I will be starting the lab on basic training soon, and when puppy completes shots in two months, I will be taking her to puppy classes nearby. We also have two local dog parks run by the forest preserve nearby that once I know they have their basic commands down we will go their to exercise. Any other suggestions would be welcomed. I hope by getting her young and working with her she will turn out well. I just noticed she has webbed feet - what other dogs have this besides labs??? Also, yesterday when I was giving her a bath, I noticed she had freckles all over, not just on her belly, but the hair hid them. Is this indicative of any certain breed?? Do you think having another dog, and four kids to play with will help keep her destructive tendencies down?? OK enought with the questions - I'll quit now. Thanks for all the guesses and info.

Yep - Heinz 57 ok with me!! She's a furry friend that we love no matter what she is. I was thinking she might have some some great pyrenees in her somewhere with her coloring but she doesn't have the eyes of jowels to match. Who knows, she could have some white shepard in her somewhere too. Oh well - we'll never know, but fun to guess. Still curious about the webbed feet though.

looks a LOT like my aussie when he was a pup, and even if this pups fur isn't long it sometimes can be atypical like my guy who I know is a purebred. VERY cute, whatever she is!
just for comparison's sake, he's an australian shepherd with fur too short and hair to blonde to be a "show quality dog" :D

Thanks sunny pup - was she really soft when she was a pup and when did she loose that puppy coat. Also, how long did it take for yours to get full grown.

Foxywench - thanks for the newfie info - I love newfies - so it would be cool if she had some of that in her too.

Off the topic - so TWO Bernese Mountain dogs at different places yesterday - boy are they gorgeous!!

Cattle dogs, or ACD's, have a shorter coat, upright (prick ears, although they won't stand up until a little later in life) and a tail that somewhat resembles a lab. Australian Shepherds or Aussies, generally have a longer coat, drop ears (like in your picture) and are usually born without a tail. Those that do have tails have lots of feathering on it...I've also seen those tails being carried in a half-curl or at least high up on the back.

Both are herding breeds and are very intelligent.
Both also have a ton of energy and need to be kept BUSY. If they aren't kept busy and very well exercised they can become destructive. Destructive is not good ...

I had an Australian Cattle Dog (acd) mix 2 years ago that literally tried to eat a computer case when he got bored one day while I was away from the house. That dog would also jump up on top of tables and tip toe around the contents on top like a cat for any scrap of food... and tried to climb a bookcase during a party my then bf had to get to a plate of food. He was one of the most difficult dogs I've ever tried to keep.... But I was ill equipped at the time to keep him... so the blame lays with me.

Sorry to hear that - did you have another dog at the time or just the acd?? I'm hoping to get this one into frisbee, or agility runs and have my older daughter help. We also have another dog and they tire each other out.

At the time I only had Kody the acd mix. He had a whole slew of problems - severe seperation anxiety being the most difficult. I only had him for about 6 months... due to unfortunate circumstances. (scroll down for his story). I miss him still...
