I was dropping William off at daycare this morning. We were standing by his cubby taking off his hat and gloves and coat when this little boy comes up to us. Everytime I go to pick William up from daycare he is always playing with this little boy, playing blocks or trucks or something. The little boy is probably a year older than William.
So anyways, the boy comes up to William and I say "Look Will, there's your buddy!"
So what does little boy do? He reaches out and punches William in the nose!
I couldnt believe it. The daycare director wasnt where she could see what was happening (she had her back turned to us changing another kid's diaper) so I said "Hey, please don't hit William, we dont use our hands to hit, thats not nice!" So little boy reaches out to do it again! This time I reached down and grabbed his hand before he could hit William. By this time, the daycare lady had finished changing the other kid's diaper and came over and picked up the little boy and took him and had him sit in a chair by the wall in Time Out.
Did I handle this right? I feel like maybe I shouldnt have grabbed the other boy's hand... but I couldnt let him just keep hitting William either.
William was a big boy about it, he didnt even cry, he just stood there with this hurt look on his face.
My poor boy
I understand that little kids will be kids and they need to learn that hitting is not right... and that it's gonna happen but jeeze... i wonder what made this little boy want to hit William?!
