According to them, this is a Keeshund X GSD. :wall: He has been at the shelter a long time and he used to be a "Chow mix". So this isn't a case of "owner says he is".

Ok, in all fairness, what humane society hasn't gone insane? :p
I totally agree with you.

I volunteer for a small rescue that only has around 30-40 dogs at a time, so the owners are pretty good at taking the time and looking at each dog and observing behavior before deciding on what breed it is. The only times I really see them screw up the breed is when it is a big, black, and fluffy dog. All of those are naturally flat coats. I think a lot of the time shelters label dogs as rare or desirable breeds so that they get adopted faster.

LOL I don't blame them for this either- better the dog to get adopted for whatever reason it may be and have a home than euthanized. :0 (assuming this IS a shelter, not a rescue group)

My local shelters love to label everything small and wirehaired as a "Norwich terrier mix". I want to know where all these unaltered Norwich terriers are running around, as I have yet to meet even one in person.

Lol we actually have one of those at the rescue right now. A lot of the dogs we get in are little wire haired mutts, so we just say most of them are terrier mixes unless we can actually tell what kind of terrier. I find it quite entertaining to search Petfinder for rare breeds and see what pops up.

I've seen a little bi-color chihuahua mix labeled "Husky/Chihuahua mix" before. :hail:

I've also seen a little cream-colored dog labeled "Golden Retriever/Chihuahua mix".

Also, petfinder has wasted a decade of my life.
