I recently got a new puppy. I think she has seperation anxiety. She barks whenever we put her in her crate. Even if we are sitting right beside the crate. We tried ignoring but its NOT working. Our neighbours are starting to complain. :(

HELP PLZ

Hiya Bec!

Crate training.....do you have a good book on the subject? Good books always help! With crate training, what you want is for the puppy to think Crate = good ol' time! To establish this, put her bed, her favorite toys, and maybe something that smells like you (an old T-shirt works well) in the crate with her. Get her a Kong, stuff it (my dogs like Peanut Butter LOL), freeze it (so it will last longer), and give it to her only in the crate. Praise her when she's in the crate, and give her a treat. She'll learn that the crate means good things. Just be sure to let her out often to go potty!

Good luck with your baby! What's her name?

It should take a few days before she stops crying when you are in the room, and about a week when you are out of the room. It's hard, but they do get over it.

Hey Ppl
thanks so much. I will try your methods. By the way, I have a really strange crate. You can go potty in it. Thats why it is quite hard for me to house train my dog and because I am on a budget I can't get a new one. Sigh

Well hope all your comments work with my baby, SPICE!

best wishes and lots of hugs and kisses for you and ur dog(s)

What do you mean? If she goes potty in it, you have to make it smaller, so that she can't just pee in one corner and sleep in the other. You can use boxes or other stuff for that. If she still goes potty in it afterwards, it's another problem though.

Feed The Puppy

In her crate. Give her treats in her crate....wave treats under her nose and then toss into the crate, etc. She is just being like a baby when you first put it into its playpen or cribe. NEVER take her out while she is making noise....if she is only quiet long enough to take a breath, take her out then, rofl.

As far as the neighbors, play your TV louder so they can't hear the puppy. They might prefer hearing the pup to a television booming away, rofl.
