Hi, anyone know if we should heat up the can food b4 serving them to our furkids?

i normally give direct and then put the remaining in the fridge. I will then warm up the food if i take them from the fridge. is this the right thing to do?

Also, any idea if it's alright to feed heinz baby food? my maltese kindda picky so i thot adding a little may enhance the taste.

Care to share your thots? :)

I would never ever microwave food, for a dog or a baby for that matter. The dogs don't care if it's hot or cold, plus heating it might destroy some of the nutrients, and microwave heats unevenly so the dog could end up getting burned.

I generally steam up my son's baby food. I make his food and then I freeze it so I have to warm it up. Microwaving it is a definite no for the simple reason that microwaves warm up food quickly but not evenly so there may be little bits of food where it's scorching hot.
I never warm my dog food but I imagine that if you boil a pot of water and then turn off the stove and just put the container of dog food in there, it'd warm up and wouldn't be too hot. I'd mix it around and let it stand for a while first though before feeding.

We always heat up our dogs food in the microwave for 15 seconds before feeding.

The can has been in the refrigerator, so it would be cold otherwise, YUCK.

I know the food is not too hot to burn her, as we test it (with a finger..lol)

But can heating it up seriously rid it of key nutrients?

heat definitely is capable of 'ruining' nutrients, like proteins.

you definitely wanna stay away from heating it up...especially nuking it in the microwave.

you're probably better off with scooping out what you need for the meal from the can, and let it sit so it can be closer to room temperature and then feed it.

I'd recommend not microwaving it, but instead adding a little bit of warm water.

Thanks for your inputs! Din realise that microwaving has such effects. My maltese has always been picky so thought that warming up the food makes it more fragrant for him. also was worried about bacteria growth since i keep them in the fridge. Thought the heat will kill the bacteria.

will just add hotwater or soak in warm water from now on.:)
