I am sure I am failing in some way but it's difficult when your other two dogs were so easy to train.
With Wrigley I just watched him like a hawk--he had maybe 5 accidents and had no problem at 10 weeks holding it for 10 hours. He tried crying maybe once or twice and I yelled be quiet and he never did it again.

Problems:
Potty training: Plinko doesn't seem to be getting potty. He knows that outside you go potty but he doesn't correlate when you are inside and have to go you have to wait to go outside. He is 7-8 months old now. I take him out often, praise and treat. If I catch him going in the house I give a "No" and take him outside. I absolutely have to come home at lunch and let him out or he will pee--which is not something I was used to doing.

He also pees his bed at night. We let him out around 11pm (at this point he hasn't had water for at least 2 hours) at 6am he generally starts crying and if you don't jump and run as fast as you can he pees (or may have already peed). I believe I am going to put him in his small travel bag without a bed--he seems to be less willing to pee in there than with the larger crate and a bed at night.

Crying: He loves to cry. He cried when he needs to go potty and is in the crate (this is good I suppose) but then he cries if he wants food or cries because he is thirsty. For instance usually the dogs eat at 7am. At 6 he starts crying--I let him out potty (in hopes of no accident) but then I go back to bed for another 45 min.He will cry the entire time until I have fed him--then if I don't give him water right away he will cry. If he is in the crate and the other dogs are out he will cry. If all of them are away and my husband and I are home he will cry. I hate dog crying--it is the worst sound in the world~!

Sometimes I feel like I am at the end of my rope! I have been consistent and have used positive reinforcement the entire time for the most part. I feel bad because I regret getting him at times.

Maybe start potty training from square 1. Start taking the dog out after eating, drinking, napping, sleeping, and every 2 hours. Say good pee, good poop when the puppy does it.

Could you start feeding him at 6 a.m. Maybe his stomach is hungry earlier than 7 a.m.

Crying because he wants out of the crate to play with the other dogs I would consider normal. He's jealous. Wouldn't you be. If you don't want him with the other dogs, then take him aside and play with him.

training

We are still doing that for potty--including giving treats/praise when he is good outside--and when he is out of the crate we take him out about every 45 minutes (2 hours and he definitely would have an accident).

Maybe if I feed him a bedtime snack he won't be so hungry at 6am? Really I think it's that he cries to go out potty and if it is anywhere near breakfast time he cries until he gets his food (6am, 7am, etc). Then after he eats he cries until I give him water (due to potty accidents he does not have water all of the time). More like he is used to it being at a certain time in a certain order and if I don't then he cries.

There are times when we can't be staring at him (cooking dinner, cleaning etc) when the other two dogs are out (as they are 100% reliable in their potty behaviors) when he is put away. This is when he cries.

I would suggest finding a trainer to work with you.

I would also go back to square one with the housebreaking, either in a crate or under constant supervision. Keep a journal of when he eliminates and let him out before you think he has to go. Continue rewarding him when he goes outside.

Do not let out a crying dog as it encourages them to cry even more the next time around. Set your alarm before the dog wakes up and let them out then (even if it has to be 2/3am). Do not feed him any earlier, trust me, he will just continue to wake you up earlier and earlier.

If you must let him out and he's crying to not move towards his crate until there is a pause of silence. If he starts crying again, stop moving.

For the potty training, is it possible that he has a medical condition? Otherwise, it just doesn't make sense to me that it worked completely fine with the other dogs, but not this one, unless you trained them differently.

I second that it may be a good idea to rule out a UTI, however, just because one method worked with previous dogs does not mean it will work with a new dog. Dogs are individuals just like people are, they are not machines with a one-size-fits-all fix.
