hi i dont know if this is a health issue or not but here goes

i have a cavalier king charles puppy (11 months) he makes a throat clearing noise and used to do it once a day but now it is much more often is this something to be concerned about or is he just clearing his throat

you might want to have him checked out for kennel cough.

can u explain kennel cough he been home since he was 5 months old can u tell me what that is

ok i did some reading and now i know what it is and the site i went to says the best treatment is no treatment just some cough med to help him thorugh

kennel cough can have different causes - viruses, bacteria and mycoplasma. the bacteria and mycoplasma respond to treatment with antibiotics, but viruses don't. but even then secondary infections might develop, possibly even pneumonia.

if a dog has a good immune system, it can usually fight it off on it's own within 2 weeks or so. but if symptoms worsen (nasal discharge, abnormal lung sounds, acting depressed etc.) you must take him in for treatment.

also, keep him isolated from other dogs until he is completely over this, kennel cough is highly contagious.

I'm not too familiar with spaniels, but don't they sometimes have sinus problems ???

I know Cavaliers can have problems with collapsing trachea. I'd call the vet and pick his brain.

hey guys his coughing is all gone he only had it for about 3 days

he is going for a check up in a wek anyway
so ill tell the vet all about it
