Software Engineers
We're looking for programmers who want to learn how to build a top-tier social network, love to build cool stuff and work hard, can communicate well, and have a personality that fits in with ours.

As a Software Engineer, you will be in charge of helping to develop new products and features and scale existing ones. You should be comfortable discussing Memcache, MySQL optimization, Lucene, Facebook API, XML/JSON/REST, nginx/haproxy, AJAX user interface design, and more.

Our development philosophy is to work individually or in pairs, building everything from front-end to back-end. We divide up work on a project to project basis, and you'd be responsible for making sure your features have a clear user-interface, scale for millions of users, and have legible and easy to maintain code. You should be comfortable with those skills or dying to learn them!

Required Skills:
Proficient programming with MVC frameworks. Ruby on Rails is preferred, but we'll take PHP, Python or Java.
Knowledge of SQL (MySQL preferred).
Experience with HTML, Javascript, and CSS.
Comfort using the Linux operating system (shell scripting, cronjobs, installing software, etc).

Reading books!
Building social networks and building great product.
A/B testing and optimizing user experience.
Building large scale websites (MySQL, Memcached, Sharding, etc)
Thinking creatively and engaging and listening to users.
Experience building your own website or startup or iphone app is a plus - we like entrepreneurs.

User Interface Designer
We're looking for a top-notch designer to help us make Goodreads a great product. You will have the opportunity to use your full range of product design, interaction design, and visual design skills.

Job Responsibilities:
Take broad, conceptual ideas and turn them into concrete products
Design flows and experiences that are simple, functional, and a pleasure to use
Give and solicit feedback from our feedback community
Take charge with user and A/B testing
Requirements:
2-5 years experience as a UI Designer on an interactive website.
Strong portfolio featuring examples of interactive design work.
Ability to think at a high level about product strategy and vision (not just 'how it should look' but 'what we should build').
Proven ability to execute on visual and interaction details.
Bonus:
Knowledge of HTML/CSS.
Ability to build what you mock.
Experience with start-ups.
Graphic design skills.

Advertising Account Manager
We're looking for an Account Manager for our Advertising Operations team. The ideal candidate is entrepreneurial, proactive, analytical, and able to work in a fast-paced environment. This is a great opportunity for a hardworking, motivated, and detail-oriented individual who is looking for a career path in advertising client account management or ad sales.

Job Responsibilities:
Managing accounts from start to finish and communicating with clients and agencies on a consistent basis.
Oversee end-to-end execution of post-sale process – from deal signing to campaign implementation and complete delivery.
Support advertising sales team with direct and indirect revenue generating tasks and functions, help grow sales pipeline.
Assist sales team with tasks on individual accounts; including preparing presentations, creating insertion orders, entering media plans into third party online systems, checking on inventory availability, creating advertising report wrap ups, assisting in proposal creation.
Help sales team stay abreast of competitors; including preparing competitive reports and researching and discovering new business leads.
General tasks; including filtering leads to appropriate sales people, assisting clients while sale people are out of the office.
Partnering with Ad Operations on trafficking ads and create and manage live ad campaigns, including any changes or updates to insertion order.
Collaborate sales materials as needed for RFP responses; including working with multiple departments.
Submittal of delivery reports on a timely and accurate basis; including pipeline and forecast reports.

Required Skills:
1-2 years experience in online account management.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office packages; including Word, Excel, and Powerpoint.
Understanding of DFP, OAS, and other ad serving technologies.
Experience with Salesforce.com or other CRM system.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
Demonstrated knowledge of online marketing (ad units, pricing, etc).
Ability to easily work with data and come up with insight.
