I do have access to a scanner, I just have to coerce my brother into charging his netbook so I can use it (it doesn't work with my computer).

So, 55 is nothing. 12 is battery disconnect...so, when I changed my battery, the cables wouldn't tighten down as much as I thought they should. So that's probably just that, they get loose/slip on occasion?

As far as the gas cap, I know for a fact it's just a spare/left-behind one my brother got at Quiktrip, because it used to have NO gas cap. So that's a simple enough thing to try. The first time the check engine light came on it was during a 30+min drive, and it seems to only come on on longer trips. Though the last time I drove it 45min straight the light was off by the time I drove it home lol. I'll probably stop by autozone tomorrow if my brother doesn't get his netbook charged.

And back to reading...

I need to do an oil change and spark plugs on this thing. I have the stuff to do it, but again, weather sucks and we don't have a garage.

ETA: "24. Headlights Flickering/Interior Dimming Issues

Do your headlights have a tendency to flicker or your instrument gauge/VIC/Hvac controls dim feature go whacko? This is caused by a faulty headlight switch. The soldering can go bad or the terminals can burn out. Here's a great write-up on how to fix this issue."

My headlight flash if it's on the automatic setting and it's too cold out lol. The interior lights dimming and flickering totally happens too.

Also the key won't unlock the doors, I have to use the remote, and the remote and the driver's side door like to argue. Those are all things I just attributed to being an old car though. Any ideas on the key/locks? I'm fairly certain it's because it's not a factory key.

12 is just the battery was disconnected within the last fifty key cycles, 55 is the end of codes and doesn't mean anything.

Jeeps are freaking expensive though lol, and it doesn't help that they're ALL lifted. ALL OF THEM. If I fixed my axle and put in spacers or a lift I could probably realistically get $4-5k out of my jeep based on the **** I've seen on Craigslist so far.

The only Jeeps I've seen that haven't been lifted are also V8s :p

ETA: I emailed that Subaru guy asking if he'd take trades.

My brother has also shown interest in buying the jeep back, but he'd probably try to screw me over. I paid $500 and my shitty leaky car for this jeep (the car I bought for $1300 but was so NOT worth $1300). I'd say the car I traded was worth about $800 with all it's issues. So $1300 for the Jeep I have now was a REALLY GOOD DEAL. I just don't want to think about driving 1850 miles in it at 8-10 mpg :yikes:

Beware the emissions on something like that. Based on moving as far as you're talking about, you'll be on a coast, and both coasts tend to have more strict emissions.

The only hard part of stick driving is starting, especially hills. Once you're on the highway you might not shift for 100 miles. (sometimes they do put stop signs at the top of uphill ramps though...)

I just listed my Jeep on CL for $3900 obo knowing I won't get that much...but I'm also not in a hurry to sell it (and Jeeps DO sell for a lot more than you expect around here). I'll lower the listing if it doesn't get any interest (I'd rather start too high than start too low...) At this point I'm thinking I may go for a minivan. More room, decent mileage on most of them, and there are TONSSSSS of them listed for $2500 or less and low mileage. There's a '99 Windstar for $1900 with 84k miles, even.

I found that the hose for the PCV is busted, so I'm assuming that's what's giving me the intermittent check engine light. Found it TOTALLY by accident lol.

I NEED THIS CAR IN MY LIFE. IT'S PRACTICALLY MADE FOR PUTTING DOGS IN. CRATES. SO MANY CRATES.

http://wichita.craigslist.org/cto/4265984631.html

(It's listed for $2900 now and starts/runs. So I'd offer more than $1600, but STILL. I'd trade for this sucker in a heartbeat. And if they don't want to trade, I'll also drop the listing price on my Jeep in a heartbeat. WANT WANT WANT.)

I got an offer of a 2007 Civic trade for my jeep - 185000 miles and it's getting a new engine block this week (under warranty). Any problems I should look out for when I go see the car? The 36mpg is awfully temping, even if it is smaller. If I can fit a 42" folded crate in the trunk at this point, I'm good to go.

That seems like too good of a deal to me. I'd be looking for something wrong with the car.

That's what I was thinking. But he also offered a mini sprint car. So I'm thinking the civic only has 4 testicles under the hood, while my jeep has 8. That's double the testicles!

Rofl at the way you put that, but 4 cylinder in that car will have better acceleration that the 8 in the jeep. If you were interested in 0-60 and quarter mile times. (You can look those up to, btw)

But half the cylinders in probably close to DOUBLE the gas mileage, which as I've aged, is more important to me than a IL6 or a V8. :p

I give no f*cks that my Hyundai looks like a Saab. Or that it's a hatchback car, and doesn't look nearly as sporty as my brothers hatchback Civic. It's quarter mile times and 0-60 times are better than his Civic, and it gets nearly 40 mpg. MPG depends greatly on whether you have a lead foot or not, and I don't. Unless I'm doing something on a private track that involves showing an as*hole with an '85 Firebird exactly where he can stick it.

I should have raced for his title. :p

ETA, I should clarify, while the Firebird should "technically" be faster, A, you have to factor the driver in. I'm a d*mn good driver, and I'm driving a manual transmission. He's driving an automatic, so whether he's a good driver or not has nothing to do with it. He's at the mercy of his transmission for the most part.

B, His car weighs a LOT more than my car does, PLUS he's put about two hundred pounds of sound system in his car. His takeoff time is in the dirt. My car is empty weight in the rear end, but it's a FWD car. He's got too MUCH weight over his rear end, even though he's driving a RWD car. This is how you assess whether or not you can win a drag race. :p

By the time he stopped spinning his tires, I was gone, and a good twelve to fourteen lengths in front of him, with my cars legs already under it. His takeoff took longer because he couldn't control his wheel spin.

Still, he's an ass and I won. :p Not that I'm condoning drag racing or anything. This was on a private track with permission. Street racing is bad mmkay? (and will get you a big fat ticket/fine/possible suspension of your drivers license)
