Anybody have an average times per day a 6 month old dog will pee? I am home all day and I take her out about every 2 hours and she usually goes. I don't know if she really HAS to go that often or just goes because I have her out there, but I am afraid to take the chance of waiting too long. She holds it 8-9 hours at night (most of the time... I have a pee pad in there with her at night for the occasional time she can't hold it).... Any input is welcome. :)

You don't mean you have her crated with a pee pad right? Because that's a huge no-no with crate training (dog is not supposed to soil where they sleep - encouraging this will destroy that instinct).

A 6 month old dog should be able to hold it for 6 hours (toy breeds possibly for less), and should be able to hold it through the night, since they're sleeping, and should have gone out right before bed, and water can be taken up at about 9pm.

No, she is not crated. I have her in a bathroom right off of our bedroom at night. She is a yorkie mix, about 9 lbs. 6 hours during the day?! Wow! I take Lily out 3 times within a 6 hour period. I think she would just go on the floor if she had to wait that long....

Well, like I said in my parentheses up there:
(toy breeds possibly for less)
Toy breeds are less average than a regular-sized dog, since they are so tiny (smaller little bladders).

Charlie could easily hold it 8 hours at 6 months, but all dogs are different. Does she let you know when she wants to go out? You could try the bell on the doorknob thing. Tie a bell to the doorknob and get her to touch her nose on it EVERY time before you take her out. She will soon figure out that when she rings the bell, you open the door. Then maybe she can start letting you know when she needs to go out, rather than you having to guess.

i suggest easing her into a more drawn out schedule.....like every 2.5 hrs one day, if she does ok, do 3 hrs, then 3.5, and then on

i agree with chell, start taking her out every 2 1/2 hours for a little while, if shes sucessfull with no accidents for a week expand the time to 3 hours, again if your sucessfull with no accidents for a week go to 4 hours ect. the chis as adultsa re averaging every 8 hours they need ot pee, my crestie whos 6 months is now going about 5-6 hours between bathroom breaks...

be persistent.
if shes holding it sucessfully all night id be removing the peepad if you want her to pee outside. unfortunatly having acess to the wee wee pad generally confuses dogs as to where there supposed to go...
