Is it long hair or short hair?

Can anyone tell me how I would be able to tell if my new Chi babies are going to be smooth coat Chi's or long coat chi's? Mom is a smooth, dad is long. To me, all the babies look like smooth coat but I know that even the long coats look that way when first born........

some will have medium coats and some long and some smooth

I have no idea about the coat length. I'd say you've got a chance at long, short and medium IMO.

I'm going to take pics no later then this weekend. With Zoey taking so long to recover and me feeding the baby every two hours around the clock.......I've been WAY busy! Exausted!

Are you having to feed all of them or just the one cream one? I can see even one being an exhausting endeavor. But well worth it, I'm sure.

I'm just feeding the cream one. She is half the size of the others. So tiny. I think I'd go insane if I had to do all 4 ! I'm back to work full time and have my mom going to my home (she's retired) during the day to feed for me. She's been a life saver! Literaly!

Its good to hear that the babies are doing good. Don't worry that the cream one is small. Sometimes that happens in large litters (4 is a large litter for a chi). One of these days she will start to grow like crazy and hopefully catch up. At least that is what has happened in my litters. You probably won't be able to tell for another couple of weeks with the hair length. The ones that will have longer hair will start getting wavy hair. Nice signature....I like it.

Hi,

There fur might become medium in length rather then long or short,because my pup chihuahua's mother is longhaired and her dad is short haired too.
Her fur coat is medium in length.I was confused too cause she is my first pure chihuahua pup,iv'e always ended up with a chihuahua mix due to breeders telling me they were pure but weren't.
Anyway hope that helped
