You know... I thought Cassie was at least calling to TRY and apologize for her irresponsibility these past several days she's been calling.... but I just found out today that the reason she's been calling is not to aplogize or show remorse about her dead cat. She left me a message saying "I've been trying to get you to call me back. We've been packing up more stuff to move to our new place and I can't seem to find my bathing suit... did I leave it at your house the last time I came swimming" Then she says "call me when you get this message because I'd like to come get it" Of all the nerve.... grrrrrr How could she not even mention anything about the cat????

Wow, I missed the first post about this until now... how terrible! What a tragic accident. Your ex-friend should definitely be "black listed". Since they don't have one, they should start one, and put her on as #1.

i live in the country to but the humane society around here is so strict. they do home visits and ask a ton of questions... and if you do that it's not a guarantee.
I wish ours was that way. They don't ask anything like that. I may just call tomorrow though and see if they keep a list. They should because god knows how many irresponsible pet owners there are in my area. This is the worst... one day I ran into a friend at Wal-mart that said he saw three kittens in the corner of the parking lot where people bring animals to give away. We decided that I would go look for them and take them in if they were still there. I checked all around even through a field and couldn't locate them, meanwhile there is a family giving away kittens, they hadn't seen them. Anyways I found a box that said "Free Kittens" It appears that since the original people couldn't give them away they just left them outside in the middle of summer with no food or water source. I was peeved. I had even bought a bag of kitten food in case I found them..which I didn't so I just hope someone else did and took them in. People really irritate me sometimes. I mean how cruel!

yeah. i got yoshi from the pound.. not th e humane society and i was still questioned pretty indepth before i got approved. felt kinda like a looser when i said i only worked 38 hours a week and other than that didn't do much ^^;;;

as for someof the earlier posts... your humane society didn't take older pets? just because they're old?? that's horrible. they have just the same chance of getting adopted. the tulsa humane society has pets ranging from puppies to about 10 years old. and i see the older ones getting adopted a lot faster than the puppies

Ours does keep older animals. The majority around here have rottie, pitbull, chow, lab, german shepard in them and a lot haven't been socialized properly so they tend to turn people off. Which is unfortunate....so many of them have been mistreated so they issues that take a patient hand or otherwise they just get dropped off again. It's sad

It sounds like you have a really good shelter. Good for you now you can do both the things you want to at the same time and it is also good for Yoshi so everybody wins!!!!

The humane society finally called back... turns out they did call that day I lost my electricity and then two more times after that but I was at work. Anyway.... this humane society was one county over and she was very much interested in the situation with the cat. And she was also quite surprised that my local humane society did not want to do much of anything about it because they did not keep any kind of records.

She said they don't have an "official" black ball list for bad pet owners but it's like what happens when you write a bad check... businesses tend to post your name as a high risk check writer and encourage businesses to use caution if they let you write a check. So, she has taken the information from me and has notified other local organizations in regards to pet adoptions and rescue leagues. She said many of them are connected to one another in some way shape or form and that word of mouth between the organizations goes a long way.

So, maybe at the very least I can keep her from adopting another pet. The woman was so nice and concerned and really seemed to want to help. She was discusted with what happened to this poor cat. If I had more info like her new address they could file charges with the police department because abuse and neglect is now a fellony in most states.

She also told me some disturbing facts about the different local shelters and humane societies. She said my particular humane society in the county I live in euthanizes 140+ animals weekly.. mostly unwanted dogs. How awful is that.... all thes poor unwanted dogs just being dumped off wherever and end up being put to sleep because dumb ass people don't get their pets spayed and neutered.

She said just the other day she was at walmart and there was this family with a box of boxer pupies they were giving away at the curbside. They weren't screening the people that were grabbing pups.... just handed them over with no questions asked. She said there was this car that drove up to the people and asked for a pup and they just handed them a pup through the car window.

This lady from the humane society went up to one of the people that got a pup from the box and handed them her business card so these people can at least get these puppies spayed or neutered at six months of age cheap and handed a bunch more out to whoever she could get to take one and this mexican man who had picked up a pup handed her back the card and said "she's a breeder" and walked away. I can't believe people can be so ignorant.

Well, at least I feel as though I did something... it may not be much... but it was the best I could do. Hopefully I've saved a potential pet of hers from being adopted in the future.

As I have posted (many times) that I have worked with numerous Humane Societies, SPCA's, and other rescue organizations...with any non-profite or state organization... there are so many things that go wrong. I admire what most of them are trying to do, but they do screw up and sometimes very badly. Some local (not here, but statewide) there are "rescue organizations" that are so dirty, fithly and and the animals sleep in their own feces. Because I had to be regulated by the USDA (they regulate any animal shows)...I know "weird," but have reported them. Most are great, Reno is now building a first rate human society. But I have seen and reported bad ones too.... Just like everything else, there is good and bad, to bad the poor animals have to suffer.
