Yesterday I found out about the site rawlearning.com and I was wondering how accurate the information on it is? The reason I am asking is because the site says I do not need to feed my dog fruits or vegetables although some people recommend some vegetables in my dogs diet. But the biggest surprise is the site is recommending i dont feed my dog any grain product including rice and bread...

any info would be appreciated.. thanks

It's the Omnivore vs Carnivore debate that drives the grain/veggies/etc debate in feeding a raw diet.
I know folks that feed no grain/veggies/etc and some that feed grain/veggies/etc and all have happy, beautiful, healthy dogs.

Did that answer your question?

Sorry. Raw feeding is very confusing and even more so with the different schools of thought on which way is 'right'.

This is my favorite raw site: http://www.rawdogranch.com/index.html

It is very confusing.
One of the reasons I haven't made the full switch yet, well that and the fact I have no spot for a freezer!
If I was going to follow a website, I think it would be the one I posted. Laurie's been feeding raw for a number of years to multiple dogs.

Good luck in your research!

I agree, rawdogranch is a great site for getting started with raw.

Overall the site has good information, but the person who owns it is what I call a "raw feeding zealot".

While it is true that a dog doesn't need grains (or other sources of carb-rich foods), fruits and veggies, depending on the particular dogs' needs it can absolutely be beneficial to include them. The same thing goes for dairy products.

Personally I'm very much into feeding a diet that is as natural as possible, but not at the expense of the dog's individual needs. :)

I think it depends on the individual dog...I feed raw (and include veggies)....but sometimes I also feed kibble...which does contain brown rice and barley...as a snack, my dog also gets things like boiled potatoes or chicken with rice every now and then...and she does great on it..

But some dogs might not take to grains or veggies that well...again, it all depends on the dog, but I do think its extreme to say that you cannot feed a single veggie or piece of bread to your dog or else....like Mordy says, those types of people are raw feeding zealots and drive me nuts! lol

If you're interested usurp, there is also a great food I use with my dog's raw to make life easier..it can also be used with cooked meat..its called Urban Wolf...I swear by it!
http://www.urbanwolf.com

There's also ready made raw if you have the money as it gets pretty pricey but its already done for you, meat, bones, veggies and all. I use it occassionally but like I said, its making me broke! LOL

And just recently, a new food came out called canine cuisine...its a cooked food diet that's already made and frozen - all you do is thaw, warm up (if you like) and feed. Its also very convenient but I'm not sure about the prices as not alot of stores have begun to carry it yet.

And finally, there's nature's variety..they sell frozen raw cubes (fully prepared and balanced) and they also sell dog kibble that has a raw bio coating on it. Its one of the only dog food companies I've seen that agree with food rotation lol...personally, my dog didn't take well to their dry food, she had tummy problems and would vomit regularly, but I gave a whole bag to my friend and her dog absolutely loves it.....

Hopes that helps a bit.
