So i have had my puppy for a week now. Shes been pretty good and I take her outside every 4-5 hours. (10-40min each time)

BUT when I bring her back inside almost always i let her play/eat inside for 10min and then she goes back in the crate.

Is she spending too much time in the crate? I do feel bad since all she does in the crate is sleep.

How old is your pup? The maximum amount of waking (daytime) hours she should be spending in the crate at one time is one hour per month of age....2 months=2 hours - 3 months=3 hours.

Personally, I would never recommend a puppy or adult dog be crated for more than 3 hours maximum ever anyway.

How much exercise is she getting?

Sounds like you're on the right track.

I don't have a pup anymore but my dogs are pretty much just in their crates at night. Or if they were out in the rain I'll put them in their crates with a treat while they dry off. It's just easier to clean that way!

My young pups were never crated more than 2 hours a day. As adults and older pups, never more than 4 hours on average.

Just so you know...I meant that I don't recommend crating more than 3 hours in the daytime, waking hours. Crating for the night is just fine. 4 of my 5 dogs sleep in their crates at night and often sleep for 9 hours.
They LOVE their crates and run in when it's bedtime.:)

It does sound like you're doing great. Again, how old is your pup and what kind of puppy do you have?:)

12 weeks doc. :D

All of mine except nanook have become quite smitten with their crates too. Mav stares at it and waits for me to open the door when he's in the house lol

Yea shes a 12 week old American Eskimo.

For some reason the only way I can control her potty habits is to keep her in the crate most of the time. She wont go in it and she knows if I take her out then we go outside right away. Thats when she does her thing.

BUT she will go outside for a 30-40min walk. She will go to the bathroom outside 90% of the time during the walk. Then we will come inside and she will play/eat/lay down in the kitchen (blocked off for her only) but for some reason she will still poop/pee in the kitchen out of no where. We are talking 30min after just coming in from going outside. Makes no sense to me.

She also has a habit of eating right before bed. Not sure if thats good or not, dont want her gaining too much weight or having a mistake overnight.

I have a one year old Great dane/black lab who stays in his kennel all day when we are away at work for 8 hours. He is fine and generally just sleeps all day and we take him outa nd play with him etc. With our new puppy we generally only crate at night or when we are eating dinner as he does not have table manners yet. But for our older dog, he does fine all day. I feel bad, so I do bring him to daycare on fridays to play, but otherwise he is in there.

My pup is only in the crate for about an hour total in the day. (You know, ten minutes here and there, maybe six times in a day.) He sleeps in the crate all night...Normally from nine PM to six AM.

I really think it depends on the dog though. My new pup is VERY mellow, and has earned his freedom. My last pup, at nine months, still was in the crate for about six or seven hours a day. She is VERY high energy, and would constantly be getting into things. Whereas Blitz usually snoozes when he's out! I think as long as you're giving her excercise you're fine.

We only crate Darby (4 months) at night or when we're away for more than an hour. (I work from home.) We use a pet playpen in the kitchen when we need to contain her for short periods during the day and we can't directly supervise her, or if I need to run an quick errand of no more than 45 minutes to an hour. The pen isn't a potty-deterrent though, so for longer unattended stretches we'd have to crate.

Fortunately, Darby accepts the pen or the crate without any fuss. (Knock wood.)
