How do you introduce your pup to a new dog?

I'm going to introduce my almost 9 week old pup to a friend's 4 year old dog soon to socialize him and I was wondering how I should go about doing it. Should I just set him down and allow them to introduce themselves? The other dog weighs about 13 pounds so the size difference is not so much of an issue.

does the other dog like puppies? Not other dogs...but specifically...puppies? Some adult dogs love puppies and others really really don't care for them...even if they adore other adult dogs.

Neutral territory is helpful...might bring the pup in in a crate and let the older dog sniff thru first to see what the vibe is...then lead the older dog away and allow the pup out...I find intro's go better off leash...be relaxed and happy...but also watchful for signs of trouble. Never carry a puppy in your arms around other dogs. I find this seems to cause a lot of trouble and jumping up and extra excitement, not a great idea.

Yes, the other dog is wonderful with puppies. He was the only dog that I could think of to introduce to my little guy because he is so gentle and sweet with pups.

Would you suggest that I lead the other dog to a different room and then bring him in while the pup is out?

no just remove the focus from teh crate when you open it...that way they BOTH dont end up IN the crate and then if things get dicey that can be difficult to deal with lol.
