Hey yall,
So..we got a new pup sunday. from a local breeder. she supposedlly had her shots, but we always like to make sure,so tuesday i went and got her parvo shots again and got her tested for worms. My vet said she looked good and there were no signs of worms..
tonight shes been throwin up a little.not alot, just a lil bit of clear foamy stuff. I know if it was parvo, she wouldnt eat or drink, and after she threw up i saw her drink.
Do you think she could still get parvo even after shes had her shots? And she was introduced to a puppy today who didnt have its shots so now im paranoid..
maybe its just upset stomache..?

I've been wondering this for awhile and have to ask. Why do you have so many puppies? You have 6 dogs that are 9-10 months and under on your dogster page (assuming the ages are correct), all of which are purebred (or look to be). I have trouble managing 1 pup and 2 3-4 year old dogs with all their combined energy.

is this a problem for you?
is there a law saying how many dogs i have? no, they are not all purebred, and some of them are my moms (the pomeranians),some are rescues....
I dont see why people wont help answer a question i have just because i have alot of dogs......
Doesnt make sense. They all get loved and are in a good home.
there are plenty of other people that have alot more dogs than i do.
I dont see how there could be a problem for you since i live in the country and have a big fenced in yard.

my dog did the same thing.. i have a chihuahua, she did it a couple times actually.. it was foamy yellowish clearish throwup.. it turned out she just had an upset stomach and she needed to eat. usually we dont feed her until about 6pm..cause we feed them in the morning too so it was bout 5ish and she did that.. maybe ur pup was just hungry or had an upset stomach.. and by the way.. i have four dogs.. so no it doesn't really matter how many dogs u have as long as u treat them good and give them a nice home.. then they just have lots of brothers and sisters lol :) i hope i helped!

I think what Happyhound meant was that they are all puppies, which is probably very hard to look after/care for all those puppies going through house breaking, chewing and all that puppy stuff at the same time.

Anyway, I don't think your dog has parvo although I don't know much about the symptoms, we have a member named Buddy's parents that has a dog that had parvo so she could probably tell you more. As long as your pup is eating and the throw ups don't last for too many days he will probably be all right. If he starts acting sick in any other way (won't play, shows any pain, bloody urine/stools, or any behavior change) then take him to the vet immediately. What he is throwing up is called bile which is just like stomach juices. If he starts throwing up his food he will need to go to the vet or he may starve. If he is throwing up a lot you would need to worry about dehydration also, so if it is just once a day or something like that then there is not much to worry about unless he shows other sick signs or it goes on for a long time. But is you are worried a vet visit or at least a call to them for advice would not hurt.

if she already had her shots, you probably should NOT have done them again so soon, she may be a sick from the vaccine as well.

I am so picky with vaccinations I wouldn't personally have redone the same shots the dog just got...that doesn't really make sense. I would imagine she was overvaccinated and is getting sick from that. Some animals have bad reactions in the first place, let alone a double vaccination.

I don't see why the number of animals you have is a problem at all either. I might have said something like "oh boy you must have your hands full with so many puppies to train and everything!" but as long as they are all cared for and trained well and treated equally, I don't see what the problem is. I bet Happyhound worded the post a little off and that is why it came off so rude :)

A good, reputable breeder would have and should have supplied you with complete vaccine history.

With that said, yes, your puppy can get parvo even if it has been vaccinated. There are many different strains of the parvo virus and many of which are not present in current vaccinations. But, there is an incubation period for the disease. It will not show up hours after being introduced to an infected animal. So, if your puppy has parvo now, then you purchased your pup with the virus.

I also think it deserves mentioning that you can get vaccination induced parvo in puppies that are vaccinated too soon and too often. In the future you may want to contact your breeder for exact vaccine information before deciding to re-vaccinate. A puppy's immune system is compromised enough without being "over" vaccinated.

I hope all turns out okay. It's not horribly uncommon for puppies or dogs to vomit on occasion. Yellow foamy bile vomit can be a sign that a puppy needs to eat, has an upset stomach or is becoming ill. It just depends...

By the way, what kind of puppy and how old? Any pictures? :)

Chance had all his shots too and ended up still getting parvo at about 10 weeks of age, (i really feel that he got it because i had set him down on the floor at the vet's office).

if you think there's even the slightest chance of parvo, break out the bleach.

Yah a three day span (assuming the breeder is telling the truth) is a bit small. We wait 2-3 weeks between vaccinations.
