Hey guys,

My Miniature Doxie (Gina) has a bit of hair loss on her ears. Mostly around the edges, spreading into the center of the tops of her ears. It's not bad, and it's certainly not developing rapidly. The exposed skin is dark in color.

Anyway, I've read that alopecia is common in dachshunds, but do these things develop at 11 years old? I know that a vet visit is in order, but she's due to go in soon anyway. But before then, what might it be?

I'd like to point out also, it's only on her ears so far. She's also eating Grain free food, I believe it's Salmon formula. She has no history of food allergies.

The vet said it was more than likely alopecia, and it can show up that late in life. She had normal circulation in her ears, so she said likely that wasn't the problem. She wasn't too concerned about it :)
