My friend has a huge (over 100lb) golden boy who is suddenly quite sick and has been in the E-Vet for a couple of days now. She's a full time student with a full time job and this dog is probably the one thing that keeps her from going insane.

She's set up a page to raise funds to cover just his initial E-vet bill of $1,100 because the did not take payment plans and she had to put the whole thing on her credit card upfront. Not usually a problem because she does keep savings for him but she also had to repair her car this past month.

Anyways, anything you guys might be able to send her way, even vibes, would be awesome. Also, I'm adding in her text about what's going in on with him to see if anyone has an idea of what his symptoms might be.

On Friday, July 11th, Jackson wasn't acting like himself. He displayed no appetite and wasn't drinking water. In fact, later that evening he did attempt to drink water but ended up vomiting it up. I hoped he just had a "doggy cold" and that he would feel better with some rest. The next morning when I woke up to take him outside, he wouldn't get out of bed. Jackson is the type of dog that, if you mention "Wanna go outside?", he leaps up and heads to the door.

Saturday was different as he remained lethargic and I had to coax him to come with me. Instead of pulling the leash like he normally does, he walked behind me slowly. He had a very small bowel movements in which some blood was present, which is a big sign of concern which troubled me. When we got back inside, he didn't run toward the kitchen like normal. When I scooped his food into his bowl, he wasn't jumping up and down like he usually does. (Eating is one of his favorite things.) He wouldn't even go near his food bowls.

I went to work, hoping that he would be hungry enough that evening that he would eat again. When I got home, I noticed his panting was heavier than usual by that point. And, unfortunately, he still wasn't going to the bathroom and he once again didn't touch his food or water dish. He only laid on the ground and stared at me with the saddest look.

On Sunday morning when he again did not go to the bathroom and refused to eat or drink water, I decided to bring Jackson to the emergency veterinary clinic, as the one we go to is closed on Sundays. They found he had a high fever. They performed an x-rays, ultrasounds, blood tests, and administered water to hydrate him, as well as some other things. They haven't came to a final diagnosis of what is affecting him right now, so they are keeping him at the hospital today and overnight and will be retaining him tomorrow as well.

Scary - have her ask her vet about pancreatitis and immune mediated hemolytic anemia - two friends of mine have had dogs with both recently that presented very similarly.

I thought Pancreatitis at first too but want to believe that the vet would have already thought of that. I did mention it to her though. I hope it's not Hemolytic anemia because the poor dog is only a few months over a year old...

ETA from Mandy:

The vet is now suggesting it is possibly some level of gastroenteritis (anywhere from irritation to gastro lining to possible internal leakage) but they are leaning more for it having a positive outlook right now bc we are treating it early and he is responding well
