I am getting my beagle puppy in a few weeks and would like to know what food I should start him out on? I think the breeder feeds Eukanuba but I remember someone saying that even Kirkland Brand food is a better alternative.

What are some other dry-food alternatives that could be even better?

I am leaning towards the Kirkland puppy formula right now. Thanks again.

Wow a beagle puppy! I just got my beagle puppy yesterday! Anyway, I've never heard of Kirkland but Eukanuba isn't so much of a healthy food. I would recommend Innova, Innova EVO, Wellness, Canidae, Natural Balance, California Natural, Eagle Pack, Merrick, or a raw feeding diet. Stay away from Iams, Eukanuba, Ol Roy, Pedigree, Purina and pretty much anything you can get at Wal Mart. This is not all but the dog food genious (Mordy) should be here soon. It's a good thing your doing early research, it'll come in handy ;)

We feed our Innova and they really like it. I agree to stay away from Eukanuba. The foods beale lovergirl recommended are quality foods that will give your pup proper nutrition. Please post a pic when you get your puppy. Have you picked out a name?

people have made great suggestions already. :)

it's always a little hard to recommend brands without knowing what someone can get locally.

if you can get around it, i'd avoid the kirkland food. when it comes to mainstream foods, it's decent (better than iams, eukanuba, science diet and all the grocery store/mass retailer brands and so on), but it doesn't measure up with the really good quality foods.

natural balance is generally available at petcos. some individual stores carry eagle pack or solid gold, but that is relatively rare. they do sell eagle pack through their website tho.
