AmStaffer, our standard has not changed in size, ever, that I know of. :D A proper male of 26 inches has long been a 115 to 125 lb dog, and I have seen a 140 lb dog who was not over 27 at the shoulder. You can certainly find those 25" dogs who are 100 lbs or so, but they are about as common as the really big guys.

What we really want are dogs in the midrange of the standard.

A 23.5" bitch will be around 85 to 90 lbs, properly proportioned. :D

When I bought my first Rott in 1983 most of the Rotts at the shows were German lines. Most of the Males I saw around at that time were German like, which as I am sure you know are smaller for working. Most of the quality males that I saw at the shows then were 90ish. In the USA the trend seems to breed the Rott bigger and bigger. I have seen Rotts that are 175lbs

The Second Rott I owned (1984) was a male that was 130lbs (27") at 2 years old and in fit condition. At shows he dwarfed most other male rotts at that time. Today that would be common and no big deal.

130 is a really big guy. He'd have to be 27 or close to it, maybe a hair over. :D

Even today, some of the imported dogs are a little more compact, but you can find nice compact dogs here too.

1983 was before my time in the breed, but I know of several dogs who competed in that era that were considered on the small side.

:D

I aim for a 23" bitch and a 26" male with good bone, (not too heavy, but definitely not light), and proper body proportion.

Penny is 23.5, and will be in the upper 90s when she is mature. Not tall, but a big girl by ANY standards, tall or not. There is a lot of her. I prefer smaller for sure. I like to work my dogs, so I dont' want those great huge clunky ones. They might win in the ring sometimes, but they are not what I feel is correct or beneficial for the breed in the long run.

Sorry, I tend to get long winded when I get on the Rottweiler subject.

:D
