I want to beat those people with a stick though. One article (not sure if it was this one) said they sent the dog to a friend to recover because "What are we supposed to do? The vet is an hour away!". Umm, your dog just fought off a cougar to protect your kid, and you can't drive it an hour to the VET???
Maybe since the friend is closer to the vet, if the dog has complications, like infection/blood poisoning/shock, the dog can receive medical attention quicker.
Huh. I heard on our news station that the vet said the dog is being "fostered" by another family while it recovers because the dog has a heart murmur and the vet doesn't want to overexcite it or something like that.
Hope that good dog recovers with no complications. I can see with the snow at this time of year that being close to the vet is a big advantage. Where I live now we are a long haul from an animal ER and specialists, and I realized I never appreciated the convenience I had before.
Well that's all nicer than what I was thinking. The way it was written, it sounded like "the vet is so far away, our friend is just going to treat it himself".
