My 2 1/2 year old coton started throwing up yesterday. At first it was kind or yellow and slimey; then after her dinner later in the night it was gross and chunky (obviously her dinner). Today it was slimey and brown. She hadn't eaten anything, which was surprising since she goes crazy over her breakfast and treats! Today she just stuck her nose up and went to lay down. I took her to the vet, and they ran blood work and other tests. They said she was dehydrated (they are injecting her with fluids), and that her liver values were slightly elevated, and they want to send her home with IB dog food.
The last time I heard that, was with my 6 year old lab, sugar, who ended up with chronic active hepatitus, and lymphoma, and she died about 3 years ago.
She was not only throwing up, but she refused food and water for several weeks; ella has not had these problems. When I got the IB food for sugar, she just refused to eat it at all; it was a big waste of money.
Now they want me to feed it to ella, and I know she won't eat it; her diet is the Innova Evo, both dry and canned. Is there something I could feed her as a substitute for the IB that would taste good to her (like the evo) and be easy on her stomach?
She is too young to have these same problems sugar had!
I have been feeding her the evo dry/canned for over a year and a half with no problems; I was starting to transition her to the orijen food earlier this week; could that have caused her vomiting? The ingredients are basically the same! We also have a new puppy, and she has be stealing her chew bones and rawhides, do you think to much of that could cause her stomach problems? She has not had diahrrhea, or been acting sick at all before today.
Any help anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Aw, poor girl. Is she drinking? If she is dehydrated, you can give her Pedialyte and that will help. As for feeding, I would not give her anything for 24 hours to let her stomach settle. You can give Pepto Bismol. I think it is 1 tbsp per 20lbs. When she is ready to eat again, start with a bland diet. Something like chicken and rice or a little cottage cheese.

I would second CM about not feeding her for a day and let her stomach mellow out. Once the vomitting stops, instead of that vet prescribed food, I'd give her some bland cooked chicken and white rice. To add some flavor maybe add some chicken broth, buillon and water or chicken stock. To make it more enticing...heat it up for 30 seconds. Keep us updated on her progress :) Try not to worry too much... ((hugs))

^^agree. Boullion has LOTS of salt. Boil a piece of chicken and then cook the rice in the same water - that will give the rice chicken flavor without having to add salt
