What do you like about your dog park and what rules would you change/add if you could?

Also, are there any breeds that shouldnt be allowed in an off leash dog park?

i have seen dog parks that dont allow pit bulls and chows..

i do understand the pit bull rule, i dont know much about chows though.....

We don't have Dog parks here.

I don't see how you understand that rule, i mean if i had a Pit or Chow (or any Breed for that matter) that was dog aggresive then i wouldn't take it to a dog park.
However if it is friendly (which a fair majority are) then why should it have to be discriminated against?? Just MO.

i am NOT discriminating against ANY breed.
sorry if it seemed like that.

i wondered what you guys think about this rules. i didnt make the rules i just read them and yes i do understand the pit bull rule.

i like pits, they are great dogs but they were bred to be dog aggressive. its a liability thing if you ask me. the owner of a dog park doesnt want to take chances with a dog that was bred to be dog agressive. specially because there are more irresponsable owners out there then responsable ones.
so i do understand where that rule comes from.
i didnt say every pit would rip up every dog it sees, but at least i understand where that rule comes from.....

i also dont find the rule that wrong at all. you can still make exceptions for well socialized pits after testing them.
now i am always open for learning something new but i always thought that a lot of pits really do tent to be dog agressive and that a lot of idiots still abuse that breed and get it to show off. so allowing a dog agressive breed that attracts a lot of irresponsble owners in a dog park seems like putting a lot of other poeple and dogs in the park at risk.

I understand the pit bull rule, as they were bred to be dog aggressive and that's still strong in them today. However, I'd prefer owners say, "I'm not going to bring my pit bull to the dog park." rather than the park say, "You can't bring your pit bull to the dog park." I'm not saying I think pits are bad dogs, but even though all of the pits that I have met were very sweet towards humans does not necessarily mean they're sweet towards other dogs.

Another pit bull argument

I think our dog park has great rules it's just a matter of people obeying them.

And, specific breeds are not banned, AGRESSIVE DOGS are, and conincidently, the only dogs that I know of that have been banned are 1) a dalmation and 2) a german shepherd. Go figure...

# Dogs must be currently licensed and license must be attached.
# An adult must accompany dog(s) inside the park at all times and carry a leash.
# Dogs must be leashed when outside the dog park area.
# Dangerous or vicious dogs are not allowed.
# Dogs in heat or under four (4) months of age are not allowed.
# Dogs must have all required vaccinations.
# An adult must accompany children under the age of 12.
# Dog owners must clean up after their dogs.
# Owners are requested to self police the area and use the park at their own risk.
# Park is subject to closure due to maintenance and/or special events.
# The City of ******* is not responsible for injury or illness to dogs or their owners.
# Failure to comply with posted rules may result in a citation, expulsion, or arrest.
There are actually more listed at the entrance to the dog park, but I can not remember them.

Now that I think about it....I would make it so that it was only one dog/person and children under the age of 12 not allowed. Some parents do a great job of informing their children of proper dog etiquette, but most do not.

I don't use dog parks but speaking as someone who walks past dog parks sometimes, what I'd like to see is better fencing. Many of them seem to rely heavily on the owners to be very vigilant - to block entraces, or to haul a tall dog off a fence or a short dog out of a hole - to work. Fencing seems to average out at 3'-5', which is increasingly inadequate with the current trend for large breeds. The popularity of Great Danes, for instance, makes a mockery of a medium-sized fence.

To be perfectly honest, there are two Chows at our local park, who have been aggresive towards Boone when I've taken him, on three seperate occasions.
Now when the chows are there, we turn around and go home, I don't want Boone getting scared of other dogs.
