Mimi, a 9lb min pin was chewing a bone under my couch when all of a sudden I heard her screaming, it was extremly loud screaching sound that just went on and on, I tried to come close and feel around her to see what was wrong but she would back off and scream louder. This went on for about 2 whole minutes (constant screaming), she eventually stopped and walked to her kennel and went inside.

I didn't know what to do so I took her to the vet, by the time I got to the vet she was acting normal again. The vet checked her out and couldn't find anything wrong. Said that most likely should might have gotten a cramp or maybe she swallowed that bone and made it uncomfortable but just from the examination, there was nothing abnormal.

She suggested we give her an Xray to make sure there wasn't anything stuck in her stomach, well the Xray costed an extra $250 and the total would be around $400 for pain med, xray and exam.

I decided it was a bit much since she apparently wasn't showing anymore signs for pain or anything so I decided to opt out and take her back home. I"m letting her sleep in our room today inside the kennel.

I do think she probably swallowed the bone and maybe it hurt after she did it so she was screaming like that. Since she's no longer showing any signs of pain, should she be ok? I second guess my decision to not do the Xray and i'm sure some people will tell me it's horrible and i shouldnt take those chances but $400 to me was alot of money since the vet couldn't find anything wrong with her on the examination.

I would hope that if the vet felt there was something internal, he would've insisted on the x-rays being necessary.

Keep an eye on her for any changes in activity/eating and drinking/poop.

You said she was under the couch. It's possible she got wedged a bit and stuck and scared - I had a dog who got his foot stuck in a grate and he screamed like a banshee and even went so far as to bite me when I reached for him, but in the end he was completely uninjured.

It was a raw bone, one of those flat chip looking ones, she's been drinking alot of water and anytime i put any food in front of her she gobbles it up real fast. This all happened yesterday around 8pm, so far she hasn't pooped. I took half the day off from work today to wait and see if she'll go, once she does I'll feel alot better.

I think the vet didn't know of anything wrong so she suggested an xray just to make sure since i had told her she might have swallowed the bone.

They did encourage it but like I said, she wasn't showing any signs of discomfort or abnormal behavior after the brief 2 minutes of screaming and since the vet didn't see anything wrong with her on the check up, I decided to just watch over her. Had the vet felt some strange lumps or she was obviously in pain, i would have gladly spent the money for it.

I would just watch her, she'll probably be fine. what good would taking an xray have done at that point anyway? even if she had swallowed a bone?

With it being a raw bone, I think it'll be fine. But still keep an eye out, just in case
