My dogs need a new bed, their current one is shot to hell... the outside zips off and I wash it relatively frequently, but the inside stinks and is ripped everywhere so the stuffing is falling out. It just needs to be retired lol.

So. Any recommendations for a good bed? Does anyone have one of the Costco dog beds? I like how big they are, the seem comfortably filled, I like the cedar scent, and I like the price haha.... but do they actually hold up well?

Really my only requirements are that it can be easily washed and that it's sturdy. The bed they have now, I'm just starting to seriously consider getting rid of it but I probably should have thrown it out like a year ago. And it's only 2 years old.

Kuranda dog beds are a usual favorite. They will last through just about anything and are very easy to keep clean

Crib mattress with a crib sheet. The sheet is washable, and the mattresses are often waterproof. And they're comfy lol

I really like the Costco beds. Our oldest one was a hand-me-down from somebody who was allergic to the cedar in it, and it's hitting about 8 or 9 years old now and has just started to show it's wear within the last little while with constant use. We have four round ones, and two haven't held up quite as well because the material on the outside is thinner/was kind of silky, but they're still in plenty good shape. We also have two rectangle Costco beds and they're in great shape too. They're the best, least expensive beds I've ever found. I bought the Dobes some "Mammoth" donut beds the summer before last and I ended up putting their Costco beds inside them. The cotton fabric just got dirty looking too quick, and they were hard to wash because they're velcroed and not zippered.

Kuranda beds are nice as well, but my dogs don't really care for them that much unless they're piled with fluffy blankets.

That's what Mick had. I duct taped some of that egg crate type foam on it and used an old twin sheet to cover it (it was too thick for a crib sheet with the foam) Even better- I picked it up at a yard sale.

At the same yard sale, I picked up an old lawn chair cushion to put on the closed in porch. I just toss a huge beach towel on it. The cushion is fairly easy to clean- I just take it outside, spray it with the hose, scrub with some cleaner, rinse real well, and let it dry in the sun.

I have costco beds too- the dogs love them, they wash easily and seem to stand up to the digging and nesting that my dogs do. It also helps that they are a great price!

I do love WestPaw beds though- I have two, and if not for the expense would have more. I have the bumper beds- fun colors, and super durable. They are a bit of a pain to wash (the bumper part), but the material is super tough.

Thanks guys!

I've looked at the Kuranda beds (and cheaper knock-offs), but what Toller mentioned is one of my concerns about them - I don't know if my dogs, Juno in particular, would be fond of one unless I piled a bunch of thick fluffy blankets on it. It would be nice to get them up off the floor a bit though.

Karundas are awesome. They last forever. Every dog in our daycare gets one in their den. Some of ours are five years old and have seen literally thousands of dogs use them.

That said, my dogs don't like them :p they'll use them if there's a fluffy blanket on them though. I have an llbean donut shaped dog bed that's about 7 or 8 years old and its amazing. Its covered in a Jean fabric, Enzo loves the hell out of it and I can wash the inside at the Laundromat with the higher capacity washer and dryers (ours is too small) and it comes out in perfect shape. On the other hand it was nearly a hundred dollars. But if you factor that out over the life of it comes out pretty **** cheap.

We have a Sams club bed in the living room that is a "landing" for the love seat (Jin can't get on it anymore without it). It has a cover that zips off and is washed about once a month, or if Enda throws up on in, or tracks muddy paws across the floor, and its core is filled with recycled chipped memory foam. I mostly just love how well it goes with the living room though.

And this is what End sleeps on at night, in my room, it is a pile of pillows covered with a fuzzy blanket:

I do also have a Coolaroo bed that I bought off the sale rack, but it is right now disassembled under my bed because there just isn't a place to put it right now. My dogs prefer pillows and blankets.

I don't have any pics handy of Jin's bed, but it is a 3" memory foam king sized (I believe?) bed topper, folded in half on the floor covered twice, top with another fuzzy blanket. We use to have a futon that it went on, and that is where Jinj slept every night, but my brother took that to his apartment a few years ago.

As long as the liner can be opened, you can wash them. Just empty the cedar out and refill it after the liner is dry. ;)
Or, you could be a crafty person like me, and just make your own second cover to go over it, you don't even need to know how to sew a zipper in, just sew it like a pocket pillow case! Here, here's a pic of a cover I made and slid two old pillows in to put in Enda's crate when she was a puppy:

I've done stuff like that, too. I also discovered that a twin/standard size pillow case fits rather nicely on crate pads for the #400 Vari Kennel.

What I was getting at about the cedar is, eventualy, the inner liner has to be washed, too (as well as the cedar replaced).

I picked up a huge bed fromt the side of the road a few years ago. Only to get it home and discover the inner liner didn't open (it had a zip off cover). So, since the bed wouldn't fit in the washer we had at the time, I slit the seam open and took the liner off. After it was washed and dried, I restuffed it with new chopped foam and put velcro where I had slit the seam open.

We bought one at Costco after we got Aura, and now it is THE bed to lay on, whoever gets there first always claims this bed. I'm not sure why! I also have not seen them at Costco since, which sucks because I wanted to get another one. Its only got a firm eggshell foamie in it, but apparently its super comfy. The top zips off and is easily washable.

It's the square one in the middle of this pic:

The blue bed on the left is Kong, and has a cedar smell to it, so I'm assuming that's what it's stuffed with, along with some foam stuff... Not as comfy and gets kind of lumpy when you have to move it around or take the cover off. The cover is also not as easily washed and dirt/hair sticks to it much more.

I really recommend Coolaroo beds, I have three now and they are brilliant.

^^ FTW... they last FOREVER. I also have a coolaroo bed and they're alright. I just have to replace the hammock part about once a year.
Really? My Coolaroo beds are three years old and look really good! They usually have a 5 year warranty for replacing the cover, did yours come with that?

I thought you were meant to put blankets on anyway :p I always have. I have a single quilt folded in half on each one.

I can see Juno pulling the blankets off to lie on the floor lol which is where my hesitation comes from. Also, Juno and Lucy like to sleep curled up with each other so I'd need one big enough to accomodate that.

Katy looks very comfy in that photo though lol so maybe I'll give it a try. I'll have to give the Costco beds another look but they might be too big for the space I have, anyway. The cots would definitely be easier to keep clean though, even with blankets on those can at least be thrown in the wash normally.
