I have to ask, seeing as it's been that kinda morning. Check in/out for boarding is from 9-10, or 5-6, by appointment only. The rest of the time we have other things to do. Or in today's case, I have other things to do, like grooming.

Two out of the three people so far this morning have asked if it's 'ok' if they arrive after six when they pick up. Then they look at me like I'm crazy when I tell them we close at 6, and I generally am on the highway by 6:05 so I can get home and have dinner at 7, or that I have a class to go to, or whatever - regardless, I have plans, these are the hours, thanks.

Another lady called to ask if she could pick up her dog between 2ish and 4 ish... same thing, no, it's a busy day and I won't be able to do that. She said she'd leave right away then to get here before 10. Still waiting.

I guess that's a vent too.

I do my best to respect that kinda stuff. If I have an appointment, I make sure i leave my house with plenty of time to get there. You never know what traffic will be like so I always give myself extra time. So I usually end up being early and waiting. But that's fine with me.

If something comes up that I just can't be where I need to ontime, I always call in advance. Usually before I even leave my house to make sure I can be late. I don't board my dogs or go to doggie daycare, but If I did, I'd respect their hours. I know that the people that work there have a life and a family. Same with any other place or business.

I try to. I know people have other things to do and shouldn't have to wait on me to do them.

I do or at least try very hard to. Now when directions get messed up, then I'm sorry I'm late, but please next time be more concise, kthx.

Oh how I hated Sunday mornings in boarding! The lobby doesn't open until 12pm. There is no one there to work the computer and check out before then. Every client is told this when they make the reservation and when they check-in. We have a handy dandy little sign right next to the front door that says the hours even! And yet without fail, at 9am someone is rattling the doors and peering in like it's some great mystery that they're locked...or if a groomer would forget to lock the door behind them, they'd just walk in and stand in a dark, empty lobby until someone noticed them and asked what they were doing. It drove me nuts, especially when clients who had been coming for years would do it.

I know I'm awful at it. I try, but I am a scatter brain. I need to get better at it.

I am a terrible time keeper.

When I worked in kennels though, people could collect their dogs at any time we were open. There was a bell they could ring.

And this wasn't a small kennels - there were 4 blocks of dogs to be exercised, fed, kennels to be cleaned.... Not to mention the goats, horses, geese and owners dogs..... Meep.

Never really posed a problem.... Only took one person to check the dogs out and collect them for the owners.

I respect peoples time but I HATE that boarding facility make rules about when you can and cant get your dogs that it why I refuse to leave mine at any and choose instead to use a great in home service.

I dont see if I am going to be home at 7PM from vacation say why I cant have my dog THEN and why they should have to spend an extra night (its not about the money, charge me for all I care, just let me see my dog already!). If a boarding facility truly has people watching your dogs all night... how hard is it to have them bring your dog to the counter for you to take home.

I am always considerate and punctual--don't want to be waiting for other people anymore than they want to be waiting for me.

ME running late for ANYTHING is a personal pet peeve of mine. I swear if I am running late I would just as soon not go at all. Too much stress and aggravation involved with running late, seems like every red light, train, or stop sign is the end of the world to me under those situations.

So I guess the answer is YES, I always try to respect other's time. I am likely to be more annoyed with myself for being late than YOU would be with me! LOL

Honestly, I rather people be late then never show up at all, most of the time.

IMHO it's downright rude to say you'll go somewhere and then cancel at the last minute, unless you have an honestly good reason for it. Otherwise, I get ready and, possibly, get up early and then waste my time after you cancel. ya know?

So if anything, I feel it's better I'm late then not there, though I HATE being late so much!

It's not usually because of the effort, but the issues it causes with bookkeeping. And not every person is trained on the computer systems and they shouldn't have to be. Why can't I go to the mall any old time I want? There's security guards and cleaning staff there, why can't they just let me into the store and ring me up?

Our place offers a "loophole"...if you pick up before 1pm the next day, then we don't charge you, so if you get home from your vacation at 7:30pm, we give you time to get home and unpacked and stuff, then get the dog the next day without charging extra. And if a client made arrangements ahead of time and pre-paid so all we had to do was bring up the dog, then sure. Not a problem. But for those who just randomly show up and demand to be accomodated, that's when I have issues.
