Do you go by the amount on the back of the bag?

Okay, my boy is eating Natural Balance venison and brown rice. He is 18 months old, is a very active ACD and is 67 lbs of muscle. So according to the bag it says for his weight 60 to 80 lbs 3 3/4 cups to 4 3/4 cups, so I give him about 2 cups in the morning and 2 cups at night. Is it to much? The guy I am seeing owns a 120 lb bandogge who gets only 2 cups of food a day, one in the morn and one at night. I think that is to little food for that size dog but his trainer said it was plenty  When I told him how much I feed my boy he said it was to much but my Caiza is much, much, more active than his dog and my guy never gets any treats throughout the day because of his newly discovered food allergies to the normal meats found in dog food such as chicken . So what do you think? Advice appreciated :)

I'm certainly no expert, but if both dogs look to be in good shape, I'd go with whatever you are feeding them. Meg gets far less than the bag suggests for her weight; she is extremely active, but gets a lot of training treats.

I feed my dogs about half of what the bag recommends. They would be so obese if I went by the bag recommendations! I think the bag can be a useful GUIDE, but you should really calculate calories and go off of your dog's body condition.

If your dog is in as great shape as you say he is, then there isn't really a reason to change.

By the way, do you realize that there are wheat-free, corn-free, chicken-free training treats? http://www.sitstay.com/store/edibles/treats3.shtml

Herschel has tried the Garlic and Honey, PB-Molasses-Carob, Wild Ginger, and White Cheddar. I think his favorites are the White Cheddar and Wild Ginger.

Thanks all! And thanks Herschel I will check those out. I'm still in the beginning fase of weeding out what is causing his problems. The vet told me to do one thing for 12 weeks and then try another. He was eating Bil-jac at the breeders then I switched him to Natural balance regular and then Innova evo and then the regular Innova but nothing seemed to help him. I even tried raw for a few months. Since I put him on the venison it has been an incredible change.
