I have the dad of my pups and he is 2 years old and he has never had anything wrong with his nails. I just decided that I wanted to get the pups dewclaws removed because it's a fuss trying to cut and file those nails and I didn't want to deal with it. I did take them to the vet on Friday and they cut them off for me. They wouldn't even let me watch. They are doing great now and I can't wait for them to open their eyes in the next week.

Oh, that's great, Dog Gurl! I'm glad you took them to the vet to get it done, and that your pups are doing okay. :)

both my pups have their dewclaws and I haven't had a problem... yet! As far as tail and ear cropping, I'm against it... poor doggies...

I am glad you had them removed. Most small dogs I have been around had very loose, hangy dewclaws. It seems like they would be more trouble than they are worth... ;)
On the other hand,
I have never had any problems with front dewclaws on any of my bigger dogs I have had in the last 30 years... but I would definately get any rear dewclaws wacked off regardless of dog size, I believe they cause more problems...and sometimes they are so huge they look like double dewclaws on each hind leg. I am lucky that none of my dogs have ever had rears.
