While I love mutts, I don't like designer breeds. The majority of breeders out there are irresponsible, and even if you get your dog from a responsible breeder, if you call it by it's "breed" name, you're going to have people thinking, "Hey, that 'breed' is cute - I want one!" and end up going to some idiot breeder.

Thanks guys....yeah he's a big guy. 8 months, 60lbs, and still going! He is a little wolfhoundish looking.
He is a big boy for 8 mths. old. I told my husband that Sophie would only be about 60 lbs. full grown...she now 3 years old and an 82 lb. "little girl"..:D She looks kind of chubby with all that hair, but soaken wet she's really quite svelt.

and of course, is a real lady...

Are you implying you don't like dogs like labradoodles, cockapoos, etc..... OR are you saying you don't like calling dogs like those "designer dogs"?

AND - I don't understand why breeding ALWAYS has to come up ...... this was meant to be stricty a picture thread, for those having one share their wonderfull pictures of those they love. Many people here were probably unware of their decision to purchase a "designer breed" and have learned through this wonderfull forum the repercautions on doing so and now fully understand to not support those BYB's. I think the majortiy are in agreement on how we all feel about BYB and designer breeds..... what's done is done. Let's keep the breeding portion out of a picture thread please.

Do I like "labradoodles"? Not very much, no. Why? Because I have a purebred labrador and I'm seeing this breed suffer enough. Why oh why do we need to mix them with poodles?? And I'm sick of poor dogs having to live in mills...mutts and purebreds.

I was not reffering to anyone on this board, I was referring to people on the street. There are many, many, MANY brainless people out there.

You are right. Mix's need love to, and you know what? They are very deserving of it. Man's best friend is a DOG. That means any and ALL dogs. Some people forget that and become very biased which is a travisty.

i don't think anyone is "looking down" on certain kinds of dogs. Mutts are fine as well as purebreds. The problem comes up when people give their mixed breed dog a "name" like Labradoodle, Schnoodle, Pugapoo, etc. It makes others (that don't know any better) think these dogs are an actual recognized breed when they are not. Personally I think all dogs are cute, handsome, interesting looking, etc...including the one's on this thread. I do not, however, like the idea of mixing 2 purebreeds to create a mutt (designer dog). It just makes for more dogs that will be abandoned in the future when (or if) they don't grow up to look or act like people think they should.

Here's Spanky. I don't know if he qualifies for designer dog. If we're judging on cuteness, I'd say he's in! He was listed as terrier/hound mix when he was a puppy. I'm not sure exactly what he is, though, except a real sweetheart.
(Also, one of the designer cat, too).

They all are so cute !!!!! If I ever find a "doodle" through rescue or at the HS though, I would consider it a mix....not a designer dog.

If only the cat were really 'lounging'! He's giving the dog the evil eye and waiting for a chance to slap him and run!! The dog loves to jump on the bed when the cat is there and is still hoping one day that the cat will decide to stay up there with him.
