Any tips on the best way to cure dandruff on a pup?

My little guy has a moderate case of dandruff. I'm switching his food to Innova, and it seems to have relieved the itching, but I only starting the transition a couple of days ago so I know it will take a couple of weeks to see any significant improvement. In the meantime, any advice on anything else I can do? I also purchased a doggy leave-in condiitoner which is supposed to help dry skin...

Sometimes diet is everything - too little fat in the diet can be one cause.

I would definitely try some of the medicated dog dandruff shampoos available for a while. You can also get oil sprays which help with dry dog skin.

Whatever you do, don't use human dandruff shampoos, they can be bad for a dog.

Dry skin and coat is usually caused by a diet low in fat and oils. Increase the protein and put a little fish oil into the food. I also suggest a scrambled egg mixed into the food about two or three times a week for three weeks. Brush the coat often to stimulate the oil glands and remove the dead hair.

Natural no sugar peanut butter is what cured my dog last winter. Always cure things like this on the inside first i.e. diet. The oils and protein in the peanut butter worked in 1 week for my dog and completely cured it. Just a very very small amount once a day since it is high in fat.

I second the fish oil. Grizzly Salmon Oil is the best (google it to find a supplier). One of my dogs had a terrible coat and flaky dandruffy skin, when I got her. She has been on the salmon oil for a while now, when people touch her they comment on how nice and soft and shiny her coat is. Also try using oatmeal shampoo (that was the first thing our vet wanted us to do with her)

Good luck
