Ok, in about a month I'm going to a concert. I can't bring my 30D as they don't allow lenses over 4", so I have to bring my point and shoot. Its a Canon 3s is. Linky

I really don't have the opportunity to practice ahead of time, but I'd like for tips/hints about settings etc. I have relatively good knowledge about cameras, but still very much a beginner. I would just like some decent pictures to remember the night by. I won't be super close to the stage, but not in the nosebleed section either. Obviously it will be dark with lots of flashing lights. The band uses some pyrotechnics as well.

Any help is greatly appreciated!!!!!!!

I didn't read the features, but if you can spot-meter then use that to meter off the subjects in the spotlight. Keep your shutter speed up to prevent your subject from blurring as IS won't help you there and keep the aperture wide open. Let the ISO fall in to place from there. Also, disable your flash unless you're in the front two rows ;).

Great! Thank you SO much! Will look into spot-metering and see about playing around with it before the concert.

I really appreciate the advice.

Ah, well I looked into it and can't spot meter with that particular camera. Guess I will just work the aperature and shutter speed without flash and hope for the best.
